Friend and Comrade Borepatch finally got his first gun. Jay talks about his first
I’m sure I’ve talked about mine here somewhere, but I’m still swamped at work to look too closely. So just stop by and congratulate him for doing the best thing. I will point out that I didn’t have “Just One Gun” for more than a few days, as I quickly was working to fill a vast void that a long-time-gun-nut, but first-time gun owner has. Still don’t have enough yet…suspect I never will. I’ll just close with a picture.
And a Quote from Borepatch himself.
Because I no longer live in Massachusetts, I don’t need special licensing from the State to own a gun. Even without special papers, without fingerprinting and background checks, I can own one – and ammunition (!) -without becoming a felon. What this make me, in a psychologically important way, is a citizen. Not a subject, not someone who has to ask “please” from some Government Functionary, but a free citizen who can be entrusted with the tools of power.
I am sad to say that I have never experience that, as all my guns have been bought with the blessing of the state, or approval of the Federal Government.
When I first started shooting regularly in Maine I will note that as a kinda-sorta swishy liberal I was surprised that I could buy ammo as easily as buying a can of soda. Of course that surprise quickly evaporated when I brought the ammo home and without a gun had little more to do with it than simply look at it, until I could go up to a sandpit with a buddy.
Weer’d, thanks for the kind words. Freedom is indeed sweeter for being denied so long.
and in my wretched case, oppression is vastly more bitter having tasted freedom only to be locked in a cage.
