DGU Home Invasion

Uncle links this story about a Home Invasion.

A woman shot and killed a man during a South Knoxville home invasion robbery after the intruder had struggled with and shot her husband, authorities said this morning.

A second interloper escaped, apparently uninjured, and was being sought by police.

Notice the picture of the Departed in the story. That doesn’t look like a coroner’s photo, nor does it look like one submitted to the press by his Mom. Seems Mr. B&E is known by the police. Funny how that works. This happened just before 9pm, so hardly in the “middle of the night”, also hubby was caught off guard, and his wife ended up defending the home.

Lessons to be learned. Always have a gun close at hand when answering the door to an unknown caller. Every able bodied person should be proficient with your home defense weapon(s) (not only might it save your life, but the only way to prevent gun accidents in the home is to teach proper safe gun handing). You should practice readying home defense guns, under pressure if possible.

It could save your life.

Oh and note that this story is in fact a Gun Death, and I don’t have much problem with it, but the people who think it is a valid metric will use this number as if its a bad thing.

Be safe people!

One of the new members at the club said she just received her C.H.L. because a couple of months ago, some tried to break into her home when the hubby was out of town.

They had a gun safe full of firearms that she didn’t know how to use. Luckily a combination of her yelling about calling the cops, a stout door and a passing car scared off the thug.

    — Now the antis, being the psychic detectives they are, will tell you he just wanted her money, her property, her belongs and if she had just cooperated in all likelihood she wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

Isn’t it a sick world view where a person’s safety has to left up to thugs willing to break in your door?

Now, she knows how to use the firearms. Has a “license” to exercise a right that shouldn’t be infringed, joined a gun club and has a female friend about to join so they can practice together.

How can anyone think she was safer several months ago not knowing how to effectively defend herself?

Yep, the anti-rights nuts would have us rely on the mercy of the unmerciful, and the common sense of those who have none.

That was my huge fear when I bought my first gun, that I’d be out to sea and somebody would attempt to break in and either a), my wife would be harmed or killed, because she was afraid to, or didn’t even think to grab the gun, b) grab the gun, but not have any knowledge of how to work it, either simply present the attacker with a weapon to use/steal, or cause a serious accident.

Guns are not hard to learn how to use safely and effectively, but a gun in the hands of somebody who knows nothing about them can be EXTREMELY dangerous.

When the wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, I told her I wanted her to take a trip to the gun store to pick out a gun for her. I really don’t like leaving her alone with the kids at night.

As for the mug shot picture of the deceased, I stopped feeling sorry for people who had to have their booking photo used on the news when they got injured or killed a long time ago.

What’s really scary is I was talking about the Death Penalty to the wife, and I mentioned how fucked up the death penalty is, but the “upside” is with increased concealed carry and weapon laws maybe we don’t need it so much. Yeah this punk if he hadn’t been dirt-napped right there we’d have wished somebody had not too long from now. (see also Mr. Manslaughter-turned-mass-murderer in Mattapan)

Yep anybody in life worth risking your life to protect (I know I’d die to protect my wife and friends) is worth for them to learn how to protect themselves. Chivalry is nice, but your wife is just as capable of repelling interlopers and criminals as you are. And with a little luck that expanded control is empowering and invigorating.
