End of the Florida Shooting

The video posted here has all the talking and the guy setting up for his big “Scene”, as well as his remark about not thinking the School Security guard was unarmed. (I take that last bit as a hand-tip showing that this jerk targeted the board meeting SPECIFICALLY because he thought he’d be the only gun in town.

Well Gunmart found a video of the very end of the shooting.
**WARNING** Actual Footage of a gunfight ahead.

Watched both videos a few times. Seems this guy was pissed the school budget being cut, along with his wife’s job And it appears the cops have recovered some left-wing rants on his facebook. If I wanted to make political hay, I’d blame the class-warfare Democrats for inciting this loon. But as I said before he was just crazy and SOMETHING was going to rile him up. Just happened to be the assholes on that side, not this side.

What can we learn from this?
-Carry your gun! These people had no idea this was going to happen, and a school board meeting is hardly a “Bad Neighborhood” or a “Dark Alley” that the anti-rights jerks seem to think is more than enough for self-defense.
-Gun Free Zones Suck and need to be abolished. It isn’t much of a gun-free-zone if somebody is shooting at you.
-Bad Guys will always get weapons. If they want guns they’ll get guns. If they want to kill, they’ll kill you with whatever they can get their mitts on.
-You cannot depend on the cops to protect you. Those people you see running out in the longer video, they were calling the cops as soon as they were clear of the room. That’s the only reason why the security guard came in. He saw people running out, he came in. Town police only showed up in time to pick up the dead body.
-PRACTICE WITH YOUR CARRY GUN! you can miss at conversational distances if you don’t practice.
-ALWAYS FIGHT BACK. I can’t say these people were very successful in their efforts, and they’re damn lucky to be alive, but they did buy time by keeping the guy talking for the guard to take up position.

Good shooting from the guard, can’t tell where he landed the shot (Real gunshots aren’t like hollywood gunshots) but it appeared to take him down pretty quick for a handgun hit.

I have no doubt this asshole wanted to stack up some bodies before he completed his promise to die. He didn’t complete that goal because a man with a gun saved the lives of everybody in that room.

GUNS SAVE LIVES! CARRY YOUR GUN! END GUN-FREE-ZONES!

Thanks for the link; you’re right in that it’s hard to see what happens exactly. The fight isn’t really over when this video ends, either. It’s unclear if the gunman immediately shoots himself after this, or if the security guard enters the room to secure the area, or what goes on. That said, it’s probably the tasteful moment to stop.

Good on the guard for hitting with the first shot and getting two more off…. But why is the guard armed in a gun free zone? Is he the only one trained to wait and watch a guy hold a group at gunpoint?

BTW, 2 points for the shooter for learning all of his moves from crappy movies. Not using sights, overly exaggerating recoil, pushing the gun on the last few rounds.

And I must say, the first video is absolutely captivating. That woman early in the film – what an enormously fat ass !!

Yeah I’m not going to second guess the security guard he’s been through a LOT and saved the day. Tho I will say somebody spraypaints in a public meeting then pulls a gun, that’s one of the many universal calls of “Shoot Me”, but much to the contrary of the Anti’s fear tactics that if given a gun we’ll shoot each-other over traffic accidents, and over political arguments, it is actually quite hard to drop the hammer with another human in the sights. Given that this guy was being calm I’d imagine it might be capable of second-guessing yourself that this is a deadly-force scenario.

Someday I’ll rattle a blog post on it, but a lot of dynamics enter into this one.

I would think it would be a lot easier to engage a zombie who was confronting you. or a loved one. Third party on a street somewhere ? Some part of me knows that I can just walk away. Third party in a gun free zone ? Not until my life is directly threatened.

One thing I mull over is depending on where the event happens. Will I be able to live with myself if I got away clean while others were slaughtered, and I know I could have helped?

      • Wally says:

Anyone can make the decision to carry or not carry. I carry to preserve my hide, and maybe the hide of those with me if they are being nice. Anyone else can make that same decision, or decide not to carry, but if you bury your head in the sand until it’s time to swing a purse at a gun, you have waited too long to learn your lesson. Only if it is really convenient for me will I risk my arse (or my incarceration, or legal fees) to save your dome.

  4. Didn’t he see and obey the Gun Free sign?

I’m pretty sure, then, that this didn’t happen. Nobody can take a gun into a gun free zone – there is a law about that!!1!

Heh in all seriousness look at the longer video when the security guard walks in and asks him if that’s a real gun. He doesn’t even believe the guard is armed.

I think he chose this location because he knew it was one of the only places in Florida where he’d be the only gun on stage until the cops came. Wouldn’t surprise me if he planned to kill everybody there and then wait for the cops to come, and them make them shoot him.

      Thankfully he was wrong.

What I found interesting is that this shooter was clearly nervous…first shot misses, and blows paperwork off the desk to the targets left. Given the close range, I would say the shooter didn’t pull the trigger back…he twitched it, and the muzzle twitched to the shooters right, missing on the targets left. He wasn’t looking like he was aiming low, as the gun was pretty level.

Its his second shoot that makes me think the shooter was clearly not in control of his faculties. He shoots the *FLOOR*. The third shot you hear is actually the guards shot hitting the perp in the leg, and from that point the perp simply wanted to take *someone* out, and wasn’t aiming any more…he was simply pointing and shooting in the hopes of hitting someone.

A nervous shooter, to me, equates to a twitchy shooter, who can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Reminded me of a video I saw about 6 months ago, where a gunfight erupted in an Ohio bar, and the camera’s outside (security cams) picked up footage of a bunch of young twits pulling out guns, bouncing around like Sugar Ray Leaonard trying to avoid getting decked, and simply pointing in the general direction of the bar entrance and getting off a few rounds at….nothing. The interior footage of that scene also showed that at 3 to 4 feet, the shooters in the bar couldn’t hit what they were aiming at.

I guess what I’m saying here is that if you’re ever in a self-defense situation, keeping a cool head and your wits about you will do more for good aim and solid, lethal center mass hits to bring down your attacker, while he’s all nervous and twitchy, missing you because he can’t control the gun properly.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Nervous, or Amateur? Certainly I’m sure he had a snoot full of adrenaline, but he’s also a Jail bird, likely with a stolen gun. Does he KNOW how to pull a trigger? Does he know how to make a sight picture (from the video I’d bet he WAS NOT using the sights and was just pointing like it was a laser pointer).

But I agree with your assessment on how he shot. First shot looked low right to me (GEEK!!!) but certainly looks like it was a lousy one-handed grip, no use of sights, and slap of the trigger, and maybe an anticipation press at the very end before the trigger broke. I hear it was a S&W sigma, which has a HORRIBLE trigger, which will only add to this.

2nd Shot was just him squeezing off another round while watching the people scatter. 3rd is the guard, last two are spray-fire, no sights, maybe no real target.

Even with his horrible gun handling, at those ranges it’s unbelievable that he missed every shot. Good on the security guy for neutralizing him as a threat so cleanly. Shooting across a room with hostages takes a lot of cojones.

    Thanks for the linkage
