Going out with a BANG

A lot of people are taking about this story.

The passenger apparently struck the flight attendant in the head while removing a bag. Upset, Slater asked for an apology, and instead, the passenger told Slater off.

Slater then got on the plane’s public address system and announced:

“To the passenger who called me a ‘m***** f*****,’ f*** you!”

He then reportedly said, “I’ve been in the business 28 years. That’s it. I’m done.”

In an escape fit for the movies, Slater opened an exit door and inflated the plane’s evacuation slide, grabbed two beers, and simply slid away . . . leaving the passengers (and his career) behind.

Slater then left the airport and headed to his home in the Belle Harbor section of Queens.

Interesting guy, and I think we all have heard similar stories of somebody leaving a job with a bang. I will note the use of the Emergency slide, and the commandeering of beers makes this a big winner!

A guy I worked with worked in an upscale restaurant in Portland Maine. He was on the kitchen staff, and everybody was supplied a uniform. Well he got in a discussion about something with his boss…that turned into an argument. An Argument that spilled out into the dining room. An argument that ended with my friend screaming “F**K You, I Quit!” (in newspaper parlance). His Boss, not one to be outdone demanded that he return the uniform by tomorrow or its value would be deducted from his final paycheck.

My friend simply said “Why Wait?” and stripped to his boxer shorts in the middle of a fancy dining room and tossed the uniform on the floor…and walked home in his undies.

Good story, but it didn’t have this ending:

Authorities tracked him down and descended upon him with what neighbors call “the full force of the New York City Police Department.”

“They were all over the place,” the neighbor said. “SWAT teams, it looked like, there were helicopters, everything.”

Seriously? I mean I understand that my friend’s indecent walk home likely only hurt his employment options, pulling the emergency slide on a plane and walking out across an airport likely violated a few laws which should probably be answered to.

But a SWAT team and a helicopter? This smacks of budget justifications to me!
