Leaving you past mistakes Behind

As a follow-up to the comments in this post I’ll lead with a quote from Buddy Mike W.

I should also point out that one of my favorite SCOTUS justice (Hugo Black) was also a KKK Member, but his history as a justice proves that he really DID change his stance. He actively championed for Constitutional Rights of blacks & other minorities as a justice as early as the 1940′s. Hell, he was on the side of desegregation in Brown v. Board of Education and other cases.

What did Byrd do after dropping his Klan membership? He certainly didn’t establish a long & unambiguous record of supporting the rights of minorities the way Black did.

Heh, Mike being the law clerk, he has a favorite justice! Still he makes a good point. One is not condemned to bring the sins of their past along with them, but they DO have to atone for them.

I was, like many young people, once amicable with Marxism, and gun control. But I’m doing my best to atone for those sins through activism and spreading of information.

Sounds like Justice Black did more than his share. But what did Byrd do? Yes, he endorsed Barrack Obama. Is that much? I mean I endorsed John McCain in the same election. Do I like John McCain in any way? No, not really. I didn’t much like Bush, and I endorsed him…and I think McCain would have made a WORSE President than Bush.

But I think he would have done a better job than President Obama. And that’s IT!

What has Byrd done to wash his hands of a Klan Leadership days?

Or maybe he was just a racist old man who did his best to keep his crude and evil opinions to himself. (Even more damning facts from Linoge and Mzmadmike)

We’ll never get away from racism if one half of the electorate keeps propping it up.

PS: Oh goodness, I need to remember this delectable bit of one-party racism on Heller/McDonald day
