Morning Update

Sorry I didn’t write an update last night, I was planning to, but once I got home, talked to a few more family and friends (attempted to send a MONSTER email out to Mrs. Weer’ds coworkers and college buddies who are scattered to the four corners of the globe, but something kept screwing up, I’ll try that again this morning) I just crashed and burned.

Where we left off, we got word she was transferred from recovery to ICU. Overall the ICU bit is more of a precaution than anything serious. The doctors said she’d be the best looking person on ICU, and I won’t lie, I peeked into a few beds and they were right.

That being said she wasn’t going to win any beauty contests that night, she was pretty swollen, will likely have a heck of a black eye, and was generally feeling pretty lousy from the anesthesia, the pain meds, and just the stress of surgery. She wasn’t in any pain tho, and just really wanted to sleep.

Still while we were standing there the nurse came in to give her an evaluation which required her to open her eyes. The nurse asked her to identify us and she did with no problem.

Also we met with one of the residents doing the rounds and they said she was doing really good, and that just all the stress from the medications and surgery would just make her feel lousy, but she should bounce back pretty quickly.

Being that ICU isn’t meant for visitors, and the fact that it looked like her eyelids weighed 500lbs each, we all packed up and went home for the night. Felt like kind of a raw deal leaving her there, but I knew it was the best option.

I just called this morning to check in with the floor nurse. She says she’s doing just fine, and has just been sleeping except for when the nurses have to go check on her. The shift changes at 7, and the floor will conference before 8, so I’ll call back at 0800 to see if they’re going to be moving her, of if they’ll be keeping her there. Then I’m headed back to bean-town to spend the day with her.

Thanks so much for all your well wishes, prayers, support and love, its really meant a lot for all of us. Just like she did when she was in the Epilepsy monitoring suite, she’ll be reading all your comments when she’s feeling up to it, and I suspect they’ll be just as moving for her as they were then, if not more.

Also as of midnight Weer’d World had 362 unique IP addresses (Ok I was using 3 different devices to post updates and keep up with comments, so 3 of those are mine) and 888 (!) page views according to sitemeter. That’s just an amazing level of concern, and thanks so much for all your support.

I may throw some more updates down here as the day goes on.

I’m so glad!!! And sounds like you absolutely did the right thing but heading straight for the shut-eye. Remember, if you’re going to take good care of your wife you have to take care of yourself as well.

  2. Bob S. says:

Glad to hear the good news my Friend.

We’ll continue to keep her in our prayers for a speedy and painless recovery.

I should have mentioned the CaringBridge.org website. It allows people to receive emails of your updates and changes, makes mass updates easy. We use it for the Missus here.

Also, you did the right thing in getting some rest yourself. Take care of yourself so that you can help her recovery.

God bless the Missus and you, my friend

Thanks for the update! We’re all glad that the missus is doing well…even $weet-P, although she’s expressing it by rolling on her side and grunting. 🙂

  4. Pleased to hear the good news WB!
Happy (as in best) trails on the road to recovery for you both.

+1 on the caring bridge thing. When my dad was in the Hospital it was a real lifesaver (well, not literally) for us.

  6. Borepatch says:

    YAY!

Best wishes for a quick and complete recovery, Weer’d.

  7. Firehand says:

    Ah, post-surgery conversation:
“And how do we feel this morning?”
“I feel like crap, don’t know about you(dumbass).”

    Glad she’s recovering well.

    **Update**

So I’ve just been hanging out with Mrs. Weer’d and she was sitting up (and standing to get to the chair) eating some crackers and drinking some juice, now she’s being moved into her new room on the Neurolgy floor.

I think she’s doing awesome, she thinks she feels like crap.

    I think we’re both right.

      Woo-hoo!

She’s doing great for recovery time! I don’t think many people in the hospital can say they feel super when they are post op too. I only started to not feel like crap when I was putting on real clothing and getting discharged! 🙂

I’m so glad to hear things went well and that she’s able to have real food (not just IV) on her own now. You both take care! *hugs to both of you*

    • Wonderful to hear! I hope and pray the recovery continues to be this fast and well!

    • Jennifer says:

      Impressive recovery.

  13. hiro says:

I so glad for you both. Hopefully her road to recovery will be nice and fast.

Lurking, listening and praying for continued goodness on the Missus and Mr Weerd…remember to take care of yourself!!

  17. Linoge says:

Hell, when it comes to “hey, we just cut a chunk out of your brain”, sitting up, eating, talking, and breathing are all damned good things :).

Thanks for the updates, and good to hear things are going apace :).
