Pigmeat

Feel like Sharing This

A farmer who’s getting his land raped in Texas by feral pigs and he’s working his ass off to wipe them out.

I must say even with his stated mission and very sound and humane methods, it makes me sad when he doesn’t end up using the meat. Maybe I’m unrealistic but if I was blasting that many piggies in a given time I’d build me a garage sized meat locker and a cold smoker just as big.

And I’d be buying these ingredients by the UPS truck!

Sure you can’t legally sell the stuff, but you can legally give it away….and well people could legally give me money and other goods and services.

Ham…back ribs…bacon….tenderloin….sausage….pickled pigs feet.

Hell even if you have to do a VERY rough field butchering to get a few of the choicest pieces it would be worth it!

I must apologize to my Muslim and Jewish brothers and sisters, but how the heck can anybody believe in a kind and compassionate god that WON’T let you eat pigmeat????

Oh, so you don’t mind offending Semites? Hmm?

    This post has racial overtones.

Well played, and no, I don’t mind Offending ANYBODY!

.40 S&W is a lame pistol cartridge, and Glock got the gip angle wrong on their pistols! How’s that for offense? ; ]

The russian boar that have escaped from exotic game ranches are even worse, as they are meaner and have a habit of attacking domestic animals, even dogs.. At a friend’s farms he took to shooting them and leaving them lay, but you know the problem with that? They’re cannibalistic, so if you do that you’re feeding the ones you didn’t manage to shoot. If you actually want to eat one of them, you’re best off trapping it and giving it clean water and a minor amount of food for a bit, as they taste better executed after a bit of confinement with clean foods, but it’s a lot of work if they’re destroying you property. I know a LOT of places where you can shoot as many as you want, all day long, free of charge. They really are that bad in many areas. They’re hell on wild game too, have even been known to take fawns, not to mention all the eggs they eat and spread diseases. A healthy sow can produce three litters of ten every year. Imagine highly destructive quadrapeds that are rather intelligent, can survive about anywhere, eat almost anything, and reproduce as fast as rabbits and humans are their only reliable predator other than disease.

I’m still hoping to be able to get down to Florida for a spear hunt next year…

I’ve seen videos of that, it looks like REALLY exciting hunting. Maybe a hair too exciting for me. I saw one video of an all-woman’s group hunting hogs with dogs and pig-sticker knives. Quite impressive, and more impressive that it was being done by pretty women in outdoor garb!

That thread on Highroad is epic. I learned so much from it. I have been of the mind that I would love to go hunting some wild pigs and thought it would be cool if there were more of them in my area. After reading this I have definitely changed my mind. Flint definitely seems to have his hands full and seems to spend a lot of time and effort just to maintain a stable population of them.

I’m also with you on the meat. With the hunger problem here in the US, it is a shame that all of this meat is going to waste. It would be nice if someone had the resources to set up an inspection and packaging plant to deal with these (especially the trapped ones).

    Something to remember in Texas:
People do it and advertise hunts, but spear/knife hunts with dogs are quasi-legal at best.
Call TXPWD and ask for yourself and depending on who you talk to you’ll get a different answer, not unlike asking the BATFE a question. They’ve shut people down that were advertising such hunts.

Yes, “It’s only really illegal if you get caught, but if you get caught…” Better have a lawyer.

Ferals are not considered game animals, so it’s sorta legal, but I wouldn’t want to be arguing about it in court.

Rulings have gone BOTH WAYS in cases where people have been charged improperly.

Same thing goes with bow weights, if you like arrows.
