Quote of the Day

Needs Re-posting, this quote from bluesun

I saw a billboard that said something to the effect of “Gun Deaths Hit Close to Home,” with a picture of a locket with some people who were presumably shot. My first immediate thought was “Other deaths don’t?”

Here we would apparently see “Stabbing Deaths DON’T Hit Close to Home.” At other times we might see “Drunk Driving Hit and Run Deaths DON’T Hit Close to Home.” Or “Pneumonia Deaths DON’T Hit Close to Home.”

If you have any logic in your head at all, this train of thought is pure FAIL, and if you think about it, is actually quite insensitive.

I actually read this quote the day it was posted from camp when I was checking my cellphone messages and my explanation was “He gets the point!”

That’s exactly why I have the “Gun Death?” category, because for those who lose loved ones from violent acts, the tool used is irrelevant, and the number of people who loose loved ones violently is hardly insignificant, so when the anti-freedom advocates suddenly focus on just one tool, it doesn’t take much squinting to see how disingenuous, and callous they sound.

I’m once again looking at effrican employ for a bit and most people there are done in with knives and brush clearing tools…not that there aren’t plenty of Kalashnikov rifles around, but why waste a bullet when you can kill without it?

I kinda want to buy the next billboard down the row and put one of those “DON’T” messages on it, and wait to see how long it takes before the gun one gets taken down.
