I’m normally very much against drug testing but I can see that we might need it here.

South Africa is, iirc, currently in a major downward spiral where unemployment payments now outnumber workers. Something along the line of 14 million unemployed and 12 million working. Unemployment payments are so attractive there that many people get paid more to be unemployed then employed but to maintain this burden they have to keep ratcheting up how much they take out of peoples pay.
Just like here the politicians are now terrified of severing these payments or welfare payments. I really think this is not so much because they may be voted out of office as it is the riots that would ensue. I have no doubt if welfare in this country was done away with, limited or severely curtailed that cities would burn and people would die.
