So Bluesun notes that today his carry permit is 1 year old.
I think there have only been 5 or 6 days since that I haven’t taken advantage of it at some point during the day (I couldn’t bring a gun to school or any restaurant that served alcohol while I was in MT, and I couldn’t bring a gun with me when I flew to WY for a job interview–thanks overlords for your random and capricious rules).
I just took a look at the issue date on my permit, and it turned 3 about a month ago, and really the only times I’ve been disarmed when traveling to rights-hostile territory. Pretty much I’ve been an all-day every day sort of guy.
Still I’m curious, I know a few people who have a permit who don’t carry (Its a bit odd in Mass given that you need a permit to OWN a gun, so lots of people get an unrestricted LTC without so much as a thought about carrying) I also know a few people who are fair-weather carriers. Like if they were to go out late at night, or travel through a dodgy area. I also know a guy (Who reads this blog. I’m talking to you, Foxtrot!) who doesn’t carry for fear of onerous retaliation by the anti-rights forces of Marxichusetts if he ever needs to use it. (Frankly I think that’s bullshit, but even if it wasn’t, I’d rather be alive and hemorrhaging my life savings in a court battle than dead).
So here’s a question for the comment section: Do you Carry? How often? If you don’t carry all the damn time, why not?
Carry your gun and be safe. You never know when you might need one.

Yes I carry, everyday
I carry outside the house, unless my destination is restricted. Used to carry even IN the house, but then realized most of my time is spent next to a gun.
I work in a “sensitive place” but outside that I carry almost continuously-in and out of the home. About the only time I don’t carry in a non-sensitive place is if I am planning on having a few cocktails-a rare public occurrence to be sure.
Yep, occasionally I’ll go out to have a few drinks, and the gun will stay at home. Also there are a few days where I don’t feel well, or have the luxury to be in my PJs all day. There are guns at hand, but not IN my hand, or on my person.
Yes, every day. Just about everywhere I can. Even if it is just a pocket pistol.
Hey a .25 in your pocket beats a .45 at home!
I’ve been able to carry my 1911 just about every day this year, but still there are times when its only possible, or just so much easier to drop my 642 in my pocket. Pocket guns are a must for every carry kit, because having a BUG is a nice thing to have, and also there are times when it is a royal pain to either strap on, or carry all day, your biggest primary carry.
‘Late at night? Dodgy areas?’ Does this cat only buckle-up if he thinks there might be an accident?
I carry everywhere I possibly can. I made the mistake of disarming at a new doctor’s office, and lost (temporarily) my Blur!
I have been known to carry in places signs tell me otherwise. I believe the criminal element is either illiterate or doesn’t care to follow the rules!
AND, I’ve encountered LEOs who aren’t fools, but recognize that I’m not a drugged-up gang member, and left me alone, with a polite nod.
That’s my analogy for when people say “Why are you carrying right now?” when it comes up that yes, I do have a gun on me, and no its not a special occasion. I live on a side street, and the larger streets that it connects to aren’t really all that busy either. Aren’t many accidents on those roads. Now I-95 I see an accident almost every day (or at least the aftermath)….yet I buckle my seat-belt before I even crank the motor over.
Why? Because you never know, and it doesn’t hurt to exercise a little caution!
What’s the point of going through the hassle of getting the permit if you’re never going to use it? That was like 200 bucks or so just for the class and the paperwork!
Maybe the same thing as all those StairMasters and other exercise equipment people have collecting dust. Seemed like a good idea at the time, and certainly they won’t say they’ll never do it, or they DO carry once in a blue moon. In Mass there’s a bigger argument, some departments only issue restricted permits because they’re assholes, others ONLY issue unrestricted permits because its the wiser idea in the end. So if you got your permit just so you can own a shotgun for wing shooting, and dusting clay birds, and maybe keep a pistol in the nightstand, you may not have even considered the carry option.
Also in Maine they have an exception that anybody on active duty or discharged less than a year prior is exempt from the mandatory training requirements, so some soldiers I know went and got their permit just because it was cheaper to do it NOW than when they might be 100% sure they want to carry.
I’m the other kind. I was carrying at home just about every day when I had a restricted permit, and when the mail arrived one day with my new permit….I went outside. Didn’t even need to go shopping for guns and holsters, I was all set in that department!
I found a good way to keep me in line was my holster didn’t have belt clips it had the built in loops; it was enough of an inconvenience to take it on and off you just leave it on, and then, you know, since the holster is on, why not put a gun in it…
One reason why I love my Miami Classic II Shoulder Rig. Damn thing is just amazingly comfortable. Taking the gun off means effort, why do it without a good reason?
I frequently log 18 hour days with this holster on me, and the only reason why It doesn’t get worn longer is I go to bed.
I will state that I work in downtown Chicago. That’s why I don’t carry _all_ the time. As to whether I’ve _ever_ committed that particular felony, I plead the fifth.
When travelling entirely near home (in Indiana) or to visit relatives (in Michigan), then yes, I carry all the time. Yes, even in the presence of those relatives, who would uniformly disown me if it were ever discovered that I had even touched a gun, let alone brought one loaded into their presence.
Pretty much all day, every day (and I work from a home office). Even though, like North, I have several guns ‘next to me’. The exceptions are: If I know I am heading out for a drink with a friend (rare); and when in prohibited areas (like schools and such). Otherwise…
Every. Day. There are no exceptions. There is no place that I do not carry, which is why USPS gets none of my business. Utah state preemption does not allow even government buildings to deny carrying except jails, courthouses, or mental hospitals. It’s illegal to carry in a church that properly posts, but the penalty is an ‘infraction’ so bleh.
Don’t have a CCW permit, so I carry no weapon except my mind and a Gerber Paraframe. Condition Yellow and situational awareness are the best and most lethal weapons I’ve walked around with since ‘Nam because the L&T is a GFW. Still love her, but she is rock-solid against any projectile weapons. Freaked when I gave the Son a Walther P-38 for a graduation present (he still hasn’t asked me to the range with him – but he lives 500 miles away….)
Some day I’ll show her the Ithaca 12 gauge riot gun in the garage. Can’t keep in the house, but I can get to it maybe – pray for us….
Pretty much any day I’m not working, and any time I’m not visiting my local publican.

😀
If I am outside my house, have my pants on (the two tend to be related, but not always), and going to / at / coming from work or any other restricted place, I am carrying. If I am outside of my house and have my pants on, I am also carrying at least two knives, two flashlights, and a rather mean pen.
Carry what you can, where you can :).
I carry nearly constantly. I will also plead the 5th of whether or not I have carried in ‘restricted’ places. My workplace is one such, and one of my coworkers considers it a challenge to figure out how heavily armed I am any given day. (He’s on our side.)
Everywhere else, if I am outside of my home, I am armed. In my home, I am armed. The exception is when I am in my bed. One of my old Uncle Mike’s holsters has a new function: Bed-frame holster. The clip on it is the perfect size to slip onto the metal frame of the bed, and so I can sleep with it VERY easily and safely within arms reach.
I carry at some point pretty much every day. If I am going to drink then I don’t carry and i am legally forbidden then I don’t carry. OTOH my father maintains his chl and hasn’t carried in 20 years
