Count the Lies

Joan Peterson proves she can’t think, all she can do is repeat lies and talking points.

Once again, Robin, you are trying to compare apples to oranges. I am blogging about gun deaths and injuries. I recognize that there is crime in every country, including our own. I advocate for non violence in general. But when comparing gun deaths, the U.S. is at the top. This is likely to take us on another walk around the block and I don’t intend to go there in the comment section. We all can agree that we need to work together to lower overall crime rates. Can we agree that part of that is working to prevent criminals with guns from shooting people? And, to repeat myself from another comment, the majority of gun homicides are domestic – either partner violence or among people who know each other rather than random.

“I advocate for non violence in general”….but I refuse to look at violence in general, instead I only talk about “Gun Death”. And note that she uses that ignorance to attempt to paint the US as a more violent country that it is, and to blame this “Problem” on our gun laws. Also Note that Joan, like all anti-rights advocates she ignores the welldocumented cases of Defensive Gun Use that actually STOPS violent crimes rather than cause or enable them.

“We all can agree that we need to work together to lower overall crime rates.” You know unless we want to propose laws that decrease crimes. And certainly they oppose laws that even THEY agree don’t increase crime. Both sides claim to want to lower overall crime rates….one side actually wants to DO anything about it. The other side just wants to ban guns and restrict the rights of the law abiding while ignoring the criminal population.

“Can we agree that part of that is working to prevent criminals with guns from shooting people?” We could IF that was what you were interested in. Nope you care about bayonet lugs, and conceal carry permits, and background checks at private sales. None of this have a wit to do with criminals with guns.

“And, to repeat myself from another comment, the majority of gun homicides are domestic – either partner violence or among people who know each other rather than random. ”

Yeah like gang violence, which is why that above data is even statistically relevant.

The Joyce Foundation and the Brady Campaign are a bunch of liars, and I’d argue idiots. Seriously if they replaced the Board of Directors with a bunch of parrots repeating Joyce and Brady talking points nonsensically would anybody notice?

  1. First rule of running an advocacy organization is to only do cost analyses not complete cost-benefit analyses. That way whatever you come up with looks bad because there is no way to establish any frame of reference.

I’m not sure if it’s arrogance or just stupidity that causes her to think she’ll change the violent behavior of criminals. What does it even mean to “work to prevent criminals with guns from shooting people?” Like grabbing the gun at the last second before they get the shot off?

Her weasel words are revealing. She doesn’t want to “prevent.” She wants to “work to prevent.” I think her work is more important to her than any measurable outcome. It’s about Joan having nothing else going on, and climbing up the liberal activist status ladder, getting invited to cocktail parties to meet the Bloombergs and Goddards and so on. And make no mistake, she craves the negative attention she gets in her blog’s comments.

If somebody attempts to do violence to me or mine, I will stop at nothing to prevent that. If that means using a gun, so be it. Also if it means using a gun, but not firing, so be it as well.

Of course Joan or any other anti-freedom type can’t EVER mention that, because defensive gun use are the key factor that invalidate all of their arguments.

We can debate what the 2nd Amendment and what it means or doesn’t mean, and philosophically that can be very important. But the bottom line is that more people will rest in their beds safely tonight because this nation allows lawful civilians to keep and bear arms, than people who will be harmed or killed by guns.

There’s nothing to debate on that front, so they pretend it doesn’t exist, even when they claim to be “Safety Advocates” .

They are liars, and they are evil.

I sent this in to Japete. Do you think it will make it?

“the majority of gun homicides are domestic ”

I am afraid that is not true either. The Dept. of Justice statistics for 1976-2005 breaks down as follows …

    Stranger 13.9%
    Spouse 7.0%
    Other Family 8.0%
    Boyfriend/girlfriend 3.8%
    Other Aquaintance 32.1%
    Undetermined 35.2%

Other aquaintance could be anything from extended family to drug dealer/client.

Perhaps you misread because of homicides of all types are more likely to be committed with a gun but Homicides committed by friends/acquaintances and strangers are more likely to involve guns than those committed by intimates or family members

Like everything, any post no matter how polite has about a 30% chance of approval. Given that you just gutted one of her favorite lies, and cited data, I’d say 20%.

I didn’t say “Never” because if she’s anything, she’s inconsistent!

Joan Peterson as a board member of anything national makes me wonder about their criteria for selecting board members. I remember her insistance that she was not paid by the Bradys-I wonder if in fact she pays substantially to be on the board. I also wonder if she is blogging under restrictions that do not allow her to go off message, even if she doesn’t understand the reasoning. That might explain her three word responses, or that she will continue support for laws where she can not even pretend to justify.
