He started in again, “Well she used to live here, hey man can I” and I saw him look down and I’m guessing he caught sight of the .45 I had on my hip, because he suddenly decided to be elsewhere…
He may not even realize it, but that was certainly a Defensive Gun Use. Glad he didn’t have to use it. Go over and read the whole thing, but the scammer did get arrested that night when he finally DID find somebody willing to let him into their apartment.

Actually, I was complacent, and got away with it… I figure if I put it out there, maybe some folks will pay attention and revise how they are doing things. And he still hasn’t been found…
I dunno if I’d say “complacent” would fit my description. You were moderately proactive. You didn’t go DefCon 1, but you didn’t need to. You didn’t open the door all the way, were prepared for a forced entry. He decided to not pick on you…and if he had I suspect you’d have been more trouble than he’d bargained for.
That sounds like smart to me. Sure you could have done more, but did you need to? If he had gone hot with a shotgun you’d have been dead no matter what you did, and wouldn’t have helped ID him to the fuzz.
