Government Media

Another great article by Michael Graham about Obama stacking the deck.

The Obama administration boots my paper, the Boston Herald, from the press pool for his high-dollar fundraiser because they don’t like the Herald’s political coverage.

They’ll allow the Boston Globe, but not the Herald, because the Herald is the more conservative of the Boston papers. Classy, huh?

On a slightly different note, the Secret Service harasses a 14-year-old (without his parents or guardian present I might add) for something he posted on Facebook that wasn’t even a threat or a crime.

Secret Service = Secret Police? Classy!

He ends the article asking, “Why aren’t the media squawking?” Maybe because we don’t get any real news out of the media anymore. One side bashes the other in politics, what happend on TV coverage, who’s who, feel good stuff etc. It doesen’t really matter who’s there, from what paper the story will be the same, just with that particular paper’s slant. You might want to rethink how far your tag of Government Media goes. Did the Herald still report on the fundraiser? Would this paper have reported on it and given it a negative slant anyway if they were there? Would this writer’s report and response come off as “kooky” to an average left leaning reader? I think maybe they got exactly what they wanted out of the fundraiser press core.

All good observations. Certainly I think the fact that “News” isn’t much news anymore, and all of it is slant (but is there ever an unslanted source? I think the most scary prospective is what is claimed to be “Moderate” or “Fair”)

The big issue I see here is a US president playing favorites with news papers for his own personal gain.

It didn’t happen under Bush, that’s why the media aren’t going nuts over it.
