“Gun Death” Sweat Lodge

Another Case of “Gun Death”

A judge sentenced a self-help expert to two years in prison Friday for his role in the deaths of three people in a 2009 sweat lodge ceremony in the Arizona desert….The lodge, made of willow trees and branches and covered with tarpaulins and blankets, was heated to a perilously high temperature, causing the participants to suffer dehydration and heatstroke, prosecutors alleged.

They also said Ray didn’t monitor the temperature inside the lodge or the well-being of participants and was indifferent to those having trouble.

I also threw in the “Bad Justice” tag because prosecutors were attempting to get three consecutive three-year sentences for the three victims, which would be nine years in prison for three wrongful deaths. Given that this was not full-blown murder that seems fair. But instead he was given three CONCURRENT two-year sentences, meaning he’ll pay off the time for each of the three dead people ALL AT ONCE, and knowing the parole system he’ll probably be breathing free air in a year. I really hate concurrent sentences because as far as the convicted is concerned its serve one, get two free.

Do you really want your dead loved one to sound like a bargain while the person responsible for their death is walking free?

Sick!

He got the concurrent sentence because he killed them by being a dumbass instead of intentionally murdering them.

Judges are given leeway in decisions like this for a reason.

He’s not going to be able to run from this act. Anyone who makes a decision about hiring him in the future can look up his criminal record in AZ.

Lemme dust off my wookie suit.

Did he force the victims into the lodge? Did he physically prevent them from leaving?

At best this is assisted suicide. The victims never learned that overheating yourself was dangerous? Really? The prosecution that flew was, “[The Defendant] said it was OK.” Sure seems like, “We must blame someone for this senseless tragedy. [The Defendant] is someone. We must blame him!”

The three dead people played stupid games and got the grand stupid prize.

Who needs to monitor temperature when all you need is positive thinking?
