How About Me?

So Joan’s latest post has this bit of nonsense.

The NRA has the clout. Unfortunately, we have the victim/survivor stories. Should victims speak out about gun violence? Do they have any expertise? Do they have standing to support legislation? Meet a victim who has now decided to speak out. Her story is compelling. Does it make a difference? Here is how she ends her story: ” It could just as easily be you, or someone you love. And if it were, would it be enough then? When is enough, enough? Please, please, let it be NOW. “

Now first up, the NRA has the clout because our side is based in reality. Getting yourself shot, or somebody else shot makes you an expert, just the same way as when I slashed my thumb severely enough to need stitches mad me a surgeon. As for legislation and getting stuff done, thankfully they don’t.

But you want a victim story, Joan? How about me?

-I needed to take a safety training course to APPLY for my gun permit.
-Said Permit cost me $100 and 30 days waiting.
-Said permit ONLY entitled me to BUY guns, ammo, and PEPPER SPRAY!
-I don’t like Less lethal, but if that’s your thing, a Taser or a Stun Gun will send you to jail here because they are illegal.
-To get my carry permit I actually had to MOVE to a town that I knew to be gun friendly.
-My Permit (and my right to own) can be revoked for no reason
-When Selecting firearms to buy with my permit the guns must be “Approved Handguns” and must not be “AssaultWeapons” (BTW you cannot buy a new Glock here, the only 1911s legal in this state are by S&W, Para Ord, and Auto Ordinance, and I believe Sig. All others must have been in state before the law went into effect. I can buy NO handguns by Taurus, Springfield Armory, Colt, Kel-Tec, H&K, Kimber, and many others…I’ll note that many of these companies actually got passing scores on the “Safety Test” but were not granted approval buy the Attorney General…no reason given)
-All Magazines holding more than 10 rounds must be made BEFORE 1994.
-All of my guns are registered with the state, so not only can they revoke my rights for no reason, they can declare items in my collection illegal and come knocking at my door.

And this is not some off story, this is EVERY gun owner in Massachusetts. This is AMERICA.

So you want a victim story, that’s mine!

And I will guarantee that in Joans little world that still is not enough – because you CAN still carry that is the problem

Those are all reasonable “common sense” measures according to her I will bet. I imagine if your state somehow could legally limit you to brown bess muskets that had to be stored at a shooting club, she would be ok with that too.

I dunno, Brown Bess was .72 cal! I don’t think Joan opposes the Cali .50 ban which can’t tell the difference between. 5p BmG, .50 Beowolf, , .50 AE, and. 500 Magnum. Fifty-cal and greater are DANGEROUS!!

Yes. I guess you are right. No brown bess for you then. Since it is above the dreaded .50 caliber threshold, you might shoot down an airliner with it or something.
