I dunno, on one hand I think the Walther P38 (and its modern-day incarnation of the Beretta 92) is a lousy design destined for the dustbin of history. On the other hand its kinda of a neat collector’s piece that I have a case of the Covets for. Don’t ask why. Found this cool video, thought I’d share:
I love neat little info like this. Really like how the P38 and P1 really are the same gun, rather than an update of one.
I’ve always hated the Baretta 92. I didn’t realize it was a direct descendent of the P-38.
I’m sure there’s legions of picky-shit, but overall the 92 is just a double-stack Walther P1 with a magazine release button.
The Beretta 92 comes from the P.38 via the Beretta M-1951. The influence was freely admitted.
Classic arms has them on sale for $299.95.

And they’re not Mass Appoved!
Got to play with a couple back when I was doing WW2 Re-enacting. They’re okay, but I’d only get one as “Fun Gun” nowadays. But 30 oz empty for an 8 round single stack 9mm? We can do better in the 21st Century.
Yep, and that dreaded Walther locking block that is consumed every few thousand rounds in the Berettas, who knows in the old Kraut guns.
Nope, my only interests are a a collectors piece and a fun gun.
