Light posting. Been spending most of this weekend doing chores, watching movies, and enjoying this pleasant weather. Chores and walks do not make for good blog fodder.
Movies do. So we started off the day with Scot Pilgrim vs. the World which came highly recommended by Uncle Jesse. I’m glad he did because I enjoyed the film, but it came at a cost. First up the film is PAINFULLY slow to start, the first half-hour is a total drag. Also the Protagonist, and title character, Scot Pilgrim is a total pussy, wimp, and beta-male. Now that makes him a very unsympathetic protagonist, which is never a plus for a movie. Losers like that I don’t mind if bad things happen to them. (BTW this is the sole reason why I strongly disliked District 9…bad things were happening to the protagonist, and I really didn’t care) That being said the fact that Scot Pilgrim is such a wimp and loser does add to the amusement of the massive boss-fights throughout the film. The film is filled with video-game and Anime sight gags, so if you’re a fan of Anime and games (specifically Video games of the 80s and 90s), if you aren’t, maybe this isn’t the film for you.
BTW after watching Scott Pilgrim I felt an insatiable need to play through River City Ransom
We also watched Shutter Island on Netflix instant-watch (Its nice to see a recent release big-boxoffice flic on instant-watch), I won’t go into great depth with this film, but its a kickass period psychological thriller with some great cinematography, an amazing cast with the acting you should expect from such pros. Loved it.
One dud I watched was The Kids Are All Right, of which I watched a whopping 20 mins of before realizing that there is nothing in this film for me. The Characters are deeply flawed assholes, who on top of being total jerks are pretty boring people.
Frankly from my viewing of it it seems the ONLY reason why this film is considered remarkable is because the main characters are gay domestic partners, and they are being played by traditional leading ladies. Its essentially the adopted kid seeks out birth parents story…or closer is the steaming turd Made in America where its a child searching out a sperm donor.
If either Julianne Moore, or Annette Bening had been replaced by a leading man nobody would have said a word about this film.
I also have The Vulture on lone from coworker which I should also watch.
That’s my weekend sofar. Hope yours is as good!

If you have a 360 or a PS3, you can buy Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game, which is a River City Ransom style beat ’em up with Scott Pilgrim characters.
I read that Edgar Wright (SPvtW’s director, of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead fame) compared the movie to The Social Network (I haven’t seen that one), saying something along the lines of “The Social Network is the movie my parents’ generation would make about my generation; Scott Pilgrim is the movie my generation would make about itself.”
Sounds like a relaxing weekend 🙂 I went shooting, THAT is my relaxation 🙂
Heh shooting is relaxing too, just didn’t budget the time for it. Plus I was doing things most of Saturday, and Sunday Morning. Afternoon Sunday is when my club hosts the pin shoots and the club turns into a zoo.
Pin shooting is lots of fun, but the way things turn out you’re waiting 45mins to shoot one round…and frankly this has been a cold long winter, and my shooting skillz have suffered for it. I need to log a bit more dedicated trigger time.
Went and spent some time in the Texas hill country shooting clays with shotguns, .22s and 9mms (only shot them in the air with the shotguns).
First time I got to put a bunch of rounds through my Steyr M, I really like it and my cousin who has an XD was impressed at how much less muzzle climb there was on the Steyr.
So pretty good and relaxing weekend for me.
I shot Marko’s Steyr M at one of the Blogger Shoots. It is a really neat gun. I’m not a fan of the safety, tho, and Marko’s has a VERY light trigger for a striker-fired gun, so if I was to carry it I’d prefer to carry it with the bizzaro safety engaged.
