Second Verse…

….Same as the First, a little bit louder and a whole lot worse!

The VPC, AKA the Joyce Foundation’s version of the Special Olympics now has a publication out on the Ruger Mini-14.

First up they call the Mini-14 the “Poor Man’s Assault Rifle”…which on that line A Winchester 94 is also a “Poor Man’s Assault Rifle” if you definition is “inexpensive, and can be used to assault”. Of course the Mini-14 is just a scaled down version of the Springfield M1A rifle, both of which are not “Assault Weapons” under the Federal Assault Weapons ban, both guns did have select fire variants, the M14 and the AC-556, but honestly both Assault Rifles are obscure footnotes in firearm history, and as far as I know both Assault Rifles are no longer in production by any company.

Now both rifles can be modified to be considered “Assault Weapons”, and actually one guy did to make this really neat video:

The Assault Weapons Ban was a law written by idiots to fix a problem that didn’t exist. Still there are scores of people who won’t admit that they have the IQ of a garden salad and are doubling down on their past mistakes.

But then comes the “Data”. The Mini-14 is a horrible weapon of destruction they list six mass shootings over the course of 24 years…and a grand total of ONE of them (the earliest shooting cited in 1987) The rest seem to simply involve other Ruger handguns. Odd that they’d include an arbitrary, and cherry-picked data set that doesn’t even support their point. Special Olympics. Who wants a hug?

They then use the ravings of known lunatic Anders Behring Breivik to support their cause! Yeah their biggest supporter will probably be admitted to a mental hospital for the rest of his life by the end of the year. Who wants a hug?

Of course those who know reality, know that Old Bill Ruger was actually a go-along-to-get-along sort of guy. He never made high capacity magazines for the Mini-14 available to the public (until recently all large Mini-14 magazines needed to be sourced from 3rd parties) and was known saying “No honest man needs a handgun smaller than a canned ham”.

Some of that attitude has left Ruger when Old Bill passed away, they now have a great line of concealed carry handguns, and offer the Mini-14 with the 20 round magazine, adjustable stock, and flash suppressor pictured above (from all pictures of Breivik, he was simply using a standard Mini-14 with an after-market rail system), still most of their handguns have manual safeties, and magazine disconnects, as well as loaded chamber indicators, so they can comply with “Safety Regulations” imposed by fools like the VPC.

Yawn, yet another report showing the Joyce Foundation attempting to appear relevant, and failing miserably!

Hold on, Brother Beard, this is more serious than you think. Since Obama has set up his “Gun Control Commission” to “Draft Legislation” for “Common Sense Gun Control”, what “Weapon of Mass Destruction of Norwegian Nut Jobs” do you think will be place on the “Banned List?” And the Anointed One has already Stated that if the Legislation that is being drafted doesn’t pass the House, Barry will just issue an “Executive Order” to make it so. Then it will be a fight in the Fed Courts to stop it, because Chuckie Schumer and his Buddies WON’T Vote to Nullify the Ex. Order. So while the Long, Slow Process to get rid of this Heinous Piece Of Gun Control crawls its way to SCOTUS, that Bastion of Constitutional Enforcement, the BATFEIEIO will GLADLY follow “The Great One’s” Orders. Just look at all the Anti-Gun Ex. Orders that were issued since the Reagan Era. ALL of them could have been wiped out by ANY successor to the Oval Office with a one line sentence. Yet how many have?

  2. RWC says:

The VPC actually got that ‘poor mans assault rifle’ talking point from Breivik himself. I wonder if he is on their payroll now.

“I have now sent an application for a Ruger Mini 14 semi-automatic rifle (5.56). It is the most “army like” rifle allowed in Norway, although it is considered a “poor man’s” AR-15.”

    • Weerd Beard says:

Given that they’re flat broke, and he’s incarcerated, he isn’t on their payroll…but I will say if his public statements were private, they’d have paid for publication rights.

Also I’ve heard the Norwegians actually parole even the worst criminals after a maximum of 30 years or something, so when he gets out….well let’s face it, there probably won’t be a gun control movement then..

      • RWC says:

        weer’d,

“Also I’ve heard the Norwegians actually parole even the worst criminals after a maximum of 30 years or something”

30 years?!? How dare you! The most this sweet man will get is 21 years. (that is the maximum sentence that a Norwegian court can give.)

Granted, they have the option of extended it in 5 year increments if the deem him unfit to return to society.

I’m glad you read that the same way I did. That they’re using the diary of a madman to support their point. I think that they need to watch more A-Team. 2 million bullets flying out of chrome plated “assault” Mini 14’s and not one person gets hit. The most ineffective poor mans assault rifle ever.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Didn’t watch many episodes, but knowing what I do about action TV, dumping a mag from a 20 round box of rifle, zero hits, but throw a rock or a knife, that shit is hitting!
