Also in Real-life I had a boatload of critters comming into the lab which should keep me hopping.
In not-so-real-life, I have a Rogue that just entered the Valley of the Dead, in Nethack
Already had a stupid death (choked on a corpse I was eating), thankfully not long before I had switched up my equipment to make room for an amulet of life saving…there’s another one in Vlad’s Tower, but since I have an abundance of wishes, I decided to not take any chances and I wished up a fresh one. I suspect I’ll be posting my 3rd Assention soon…and ignoring the blogosphere to some lesser extent.

Been there. I’ve had to overcome stupidity on each ascension. I think I did the choking to death, only to be saved by an amulet of life saving, on my first ascension. Second ascension, wand of cancellation in a bag of holding. Third, almost slimed to death while nurse dancing in Orcus Town because I was blindfolded to keep a telepathic eye out for incoming enemies, forgetting that some don’t have brains…
Man, now I want to play. DAMN YOU WEE’RD!!!!
My first assention was a comedy of errors (my first venture into gehenom was an inadvertent suicide*let myself get killed by a minotaur while polymophed, forgetting that the amulet of unchanging meant I died instead of reverting)
Second assention was much cleaner but I think I pissed off my god and and had to reverse- genocide silver dragons to mollify him..and also get some slick armor!

I canned some zombies for safe eating later!
Choking essentially is what happens when you exceed maximum neutrition, when it goes to zero you starve to death, and before that you suffer from weakness and fainting.
How do you get a pile of wishes? Man I love nethack but darn it, it is tough as hell – and even reading all of the tips and with the occasional savescumming, it’s nigh impossible.
Oh btw, when you bring the FAL up, I think I’ll pass the time pestering you with nethack questions 🙂
Best way to get wishes is to find a magic lamp (easiest way to ID is their base price in shops are 50, while oil lamps are 10) just make sure to bless the lamp before rubbing it or its more likely to fail.
Slightly less common (but there is always one in the castle ) is the wand of wishing which has 1-3 charges. To make the most out of it is to spend ghe first wish on 2 blessed scrolls of charging (or a blessed magic marker if you have already discovered a charging scroll) then once the wand is empty charge it with a blessed scroll to recharge it to 3…then when the wand is empty for the 2nd time (1:0 in Nethack notation) then you can do a last-ditch (this works for any wand, but most it isn’t woth it) is zapping an empty wand has a small percentage chance of squeezing one last charge out and destroying the wand. So you have a minimum of 5 wishes in each game if you play your cards right and the castle wand is the only WoW found and its generated with 1 charge. A full wand will give you 7.
Generally you don’t need that many, and often you might need to wish for lame things like candles, or a ring of levitation or other things as they are needed and you didn’t find the nessisary item yet.
You can also get a wish from a thone.
My luck has been shamefully good in this game, as I found a 3-charge WoW and a magic lamp (that I’m just using for the unlimited light) in one of the first shops, I got one wish from a throne (got one genocide too) and now I just got the castle wand. I may not exhaust the first wand…I know I didn’t have any bright ideas when the throne granted me the wish so I got a wand of death )
Sometimes Nethack is brutal, other times it is kind.
Hmn, I have only been playing for 17 years and still learn new things….
Only been 9 for me, and I’m a voracious spoiler reader and there are still new things to pick up.
Also I’m very narrow in my hacking, as I exclusively play rogues.

I hope it sticks- and can you imagine the crucifiction in the MSM that would have occurred if these were Republicans who ran off to stall a bill that would give unions more benefits?
Another thought- why hasnt a recall movement been started?
And if this drags on I dont think it will go the way the Dems think it will.
I do like what Walker did though- it appears he decoupled the collective bargaining portion from the financial portion. Apparently they only need a quorom for thinsg involving money but not for anything else.
As such there has been a lot of chatter that Wisconsin Repubs are going to strip collective bargaining out and pass Concealed Carry in the state.
I wonder what laws are on the books there, not every state has a recall process, or if they do only for certain offices.
Also it might be much easier just to take down names and use it to beat them over the head come election-time…
Apparently in WIsconsin you can only recall someone once they have been in office for over a year. ROughly half of the democrats fit that bill at this time.
