Another Great video by Hickok45
be interested to hear more back-story from say Tam, on how the frames got their names and how many extinct frames existed. I know from her writing that the No. 1 S&W was a tiny bastard, but was this an “A Frame”?
Nice to see a comprehensive guide to the different frame sizes, also I was really amused at his quip about “Somebody in S&W not counting right” when it came to the 7-shot 686+. LOL we talked about that stuff before, and of course its neat to see what a good shot he is.
Still when I shoot revolvers its almost always in double-action, and I won’t lie, I cringe a little to see him constantly thumbing the hammer.
Dunno what his motives are, as he shoots that 642 (the gun I happen to be carrying right now, and a gun that is a nasty little cuss to shoot) like a champ, I don’t see why he suddenly needs to thumb back the hammer on that 686+ because it probably has a much better trigger anyway.
I just happen to REALLY like the feel of a DA trigger pull.

If you cringe to see him thumb the hammer, imagine how it makes me feel. I keep wondering “what’s that nub on the back of his guns that he keeps pulling on?”
LOL! Yeah I’m starting to see things in your crazy twisted way more-and-more. 😀
There’s a line of thought that goes, “First shot single action, follow-up shot(s) double action”. Shot placement being critical, the first round fired should be from the most stable method as follow-up shots will be at a moving target (if only one that’s falling down dying), so subsequent shot placement accuracy is more problematic. It needs remembering that you will likely be on the move too; how many of us have opportunity to practice shot placement while advancing and retreating from the target (or only just moving laterally)?
While I do carry a J-frame .32 mag as a pocket gun occasionally, my usual carry gun is a 1911 so my bias is towards single action. I need to make DA shooting a more prominent part of my practice regimen.
I’m in the same boat, my light carry/ backup gun is my 642, but my primary is always a 1911. Still a good single action trigger to me is totally unnoticeable unless you are specifically feeling out the trigger.
Now a good DA trigger is a religious experience. At least that’s how I see it. 😀
I don’t carry one often, but when I do target runs with my .357 I always find myself thumbing the hammer and I’m surprised how quickly it happens. I know it would be a little faster not doing that, but I sure get good hits with the snubbie that way.
