Dumb Zoning Laws

Ok this is just stupid!

A 7-year-old Connecticut girl will lose her 20-pound pet rabbit if North Haven officials get their way.

Zoning Enforcement Officer Arthur Hausman issued a cease-and-desist order to the Lidsky family two weeks ago, informing them that they were violating town zoning regulations because their property was smaller than the 2 acres required to keep rabbits and other types of livestock….In May, town officials inspected the property and asked Lidsky to take several actions, including removing the rabbit hutch, replacing missing siding on his house and repairing an unfinished addition.

Lidsky says he’s appealing Hausman’s order about the rabbit to the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals, but he’s willing to clean up his yard….”The situation with North Haven’s zoning is ridiculous,” she told the Register. “We’re not talking about a breeder or multiple rabbits. We’re talking about one pet bunny who is obviously beloved and well-cared for.”

I fail to see how much worse ONE large rabbit is than say 5-6 large-breed dogs. Also rabbits are pretty common pets, I know a ton of people who keep them, hell even my parents had a pet rabbit when they were first married. Also I can see zoning laws being an issue if they were raising rabbits for various reasons, but this is obviously a pet. Now a hutch does have some odor, and mess compared to a box-trained rabbit, but again, are dogs and cats any better?

Sounds like the family is a little lax about the presentation of their house, given the other citations, and this was just a nice below-the-belt hit for the city to let the citizen know who’s boss.

Classy!

I would pay someone with two acres to allow the pet to be boarded ( preferably outside the city limits ), and then have manure spread on the lawn every other week to promote lawn growth.

Tell the city that he will take a less active approach to gardening when the retards who complained about the rabbit withdraw their complaints.

Maybe put up some painted realistic nude statues as well … heck, everyone loves art!

A while ago, I had ferrets and was astonished to learn that California bans them. This was before I moved into the gun nut forest and found out just how bad that state is. As far as I’m concerned, if it’s in your yard, and I can’t smell it, we’re good. That includes rabbits, satellite dishes, junk cars, nude women, pot plants, and the list goes on. (Can you tell I’m a country boy?)
