Good For Them

President Obama? No Thanks!

The University of Virginia says it has declined a request from President Barack Obama’s campaign to hold an event on the Charlottesville campus next week.

In a statement released Friday, the school said officials met with members of the campaign about using one of its outdoor venues on Wednesday.

In denying the request, university officials said holding the event there would cause the cancellation or disruption of classes on the second day of the semester and the use of either site would require closing adjacent buildings for the entire day. Those were the only two places on campus that the campaign had requested.

Now I won’t go so far as to say they’re snubbing the President, he’s just asking a tall order, and they aren’t willing to deal. Plus “Progressives” and Conservatives can both agree he’s been a lousy president. So yeah, they’ll just have class and go about their day!

Obama held the event. The place was filled to the rooftop. All the college students thought he was the best president ever. All records of the event have been sealed.

I agree with the university. That is too much to ask them to shut down major portions of campus, interfere with classes, meals and other activities, on the second day of class, for a political speech, no matter which party the POTUS belongs to. And I suspect the university administration has no desire to go to the Regents and ask for the funds necessary to cover the security requirements, either. Not in this academic economy.

And you KNOW the Obama camp wouldn’t foot that bill. Telling that the RNC is paying for Police overtime for their convention in Tampa, but the DNC isn’t giving any money to police for the Charlotte convention.
