With the .450 Bushhampster!
Tosses a full hampster-sized chunk of lead down range, hence the name! *snicker* I really dig this round, it essentially turns your standard AR-15 into a .45-70!
I think it might be a bit much for even the monster deer that lurk in the North Maine Woods, but I trust Jeff’s judgement, as he’s a Maine Guide, and those boys know their stuff…also its not like you eat the ribs, or lungs of them hoofed-rats, so why not just blow them the hell out of the carcass for easy cleaning! 😀

Goes through all the effort of getting a free float tube… sets the gas block on the rifle-rest…
Send him a comment, he reads ’em!
Looks to me that he’s making the rifle do its part.
So Weerd, just how stout are those Maine deer? I’m wondering how well the Bushmaster .450 would do on moose/elk/deer, and out to what sort of distance? You think this caliber could handle a large-ish bear from a couple hundred yards to oh-my-god-don’t-miss range?
When the round first came out Bushmaster and several gun mags all described it as a 12 gauge slug gun for your AR-15. Ballistically its very close to many factory .45-70 loads. So all the data is right there.
As for North Maine Deer, they run 175-300lbs for a big buck. Grabbing one that’s 200lbs round is not uncommon at all, and the pine forest means many shots are inside 100 yards.
