Just Being Jerks

Ohio Student Suspended for growing his hair for charity:

An Ohio teenager who’s been growing his hair for a charity is being punished by his high school because administrators say his long locks violate the dress code.

Seventeen-year-old Zachary Aufderheide (AHF’-der-hide) is serving a two-day in-school suspension at Canton South High School this week.

I’ve known several people who have done this, both male and female. They grow their hair long (10″ is the minimum according to the website, the people I know went longer) and the hair is woven into wigs and the wigs are donated to woman who have lost their hair to chemotherapy.

I get the idea of a dress code (tho in a public school this seems a little close to first amendment violations) but we’re talking hair that can’t really be radically styled, just long. If the school really wants to push the issue, demand he show that the hair was successfully donated, and if he’s lying suspend him for that.

Good for this kid. Several of the people I know were high school students as well. Shows a lot of character if you ask me!

Ja ist es für eine gute Sache, aber ist brach die Regeln. Müssen die, die Regeln brechen, bestraft werden. Andernfalls brechen sie andere Regeln. Alles ist in der Ordnung.
