Keep Track of Your Guns

This is just sad!

An East Texas mother has a warning for parents after finding her young son playing with a pistol he found in their rental car.

When Jaymie Bates and her son, Matthew, left Enterprise car rental in Longview, the farthest thing from her mind was Matthew getting his little hands on a pistol….According to the police report, the gun Matthew found wasn’t the only one left sitting in an Enterprise rental car that day. The manager told officers he found another gun in a different car on the lot….According to that report, the manager of the Longview Enterprise where this incident occurred called the people who had previously rented the cars the guns were found in. Both people advised the guns belonged to them and were mistakenly left behind. The guns will be kept by the Longview Police Department until the owners can be verified and come to claim the weapons.

Seriously? I know in Texas you don’t need a carry permit to pack a gun in your car…or a rental car. Still if you’re not going to holster the weapon, at least REMEMBER to take it with you when you turn your car in!

    Weerd,

I saw about this on the local news and took a little different angle.
Here is a mother who left a toddler alone in a car. She just ‘ran in for a second’ — sorry not buying that.

On top of that, Texas has a child safety requirement for vehicles. Unless the child is 8 years old or over 49 inches, he should have been secured in a car seat. Doesn’t look like this child was, does it?

So we have a mother who doesn’t check a rental car, doesn’t secure her child properly, and leaves him unattended — and she is upset at Enterprise?

I’ve gotta concur with Bob, there IS more to this story… And I’m wondering about the guns ‘inadvertently’ left under the seats of not one but TWO cars???

Yeah, this hit all my alarm buttons. Two separate guns in two separate cars at the same rental office on the same day? My BS meter is pegged – this is extremely unlikely to be a coincidence. There’s something odd going on.

Funny. I did not know that the ATF used Enterprise Car Rental when driving down to Mexico.
