Massachusetts Only One

A tragic tale of an “Only One” making a grave mistake.

An off-duty state trooper who was hunting in southeast Massachusetts shot and wounded a 66-year-old woman who was out walking her two dogs when he mistook her pets for a deer.

The woman was shot in the torso while walking on a wooded path in Norton about 5 p.m. Saturday. Police said the trooper called 911 after realizing he had mistaken the tails of the two retrievers for a deer’s tail.

Rule 4
: Always be sure of your target and what lies beyond it. A dog is NOT a deer, nor does it really look like one. Furthermore if he mistook the DOGS for deer, but shot a WOMAN he likely had VERY obstructed shot or was a horrible marksman.

But remember cops are the only ones who should have guns

Not only should cops be the only ones with guns but hunting is the only legitimate use for them.

    Know your meme!

And…. I read that the officer will not be charged with anything. Anyone want to wager if they were a non-LEO who accidently shot the woman if they would get the same break? I highly doubt it.

They would be lucky if they just got their permit revoked (which would remove their 2nd Amendment rights in the state of Massachusetts).

More than likely they would get a felony tied to them.

Yep this cop will be strapping on a gun and going through your neighborhood real soon. Comforting, isn’t it?

You know, I have a dog that you could almost legitimetly mistake for a deer and I STILL don’t understand how you can mistake a dog for a deer.

    • Weerd Beard says:

That’s because you follow rule #4.

If you’re one of the jerks who shoots at shadows, movement, and noise. I suspect the NRA with all their hunter safety work has culled out a lot of these jerks (BTW a good friend of mine got her Moose tag this year, and ended up getting skunked despite getting in range of two Moose on two separate days, but neither one presented a clean shot, so her gun went the Moose season unfired.

She was bummed, but everybody involved praised her on her resolve.

Meanwhile a relative of mine’s grandfather was killed in a hunting accident by a scared boy who thought he was a bear, and the kid didn’t want to take a chance of it getting too close. He never saw hide or hair of the old man. Just heard something traipsing through the woods and took a shot at the sound.

Which is exactly why Apollo got a blaze orange jacket of his own just in time for this past hunting season…..won’t help with those who aim at noise, but maybe it’ll help with the rest of them (along with the fact that we don’t take him anywhere near the woods during hunting season).
