Just because I think the cartridge is neat, and I like suppressors.

Also they say what I’ve essentially been hearing from people who shoot ARs for ages. The gas-piston fans really exaggerate when it comes to the drawbacks of the direct gas impingement systems.

I don’t own an AR (yet) but I do own several piston guns that I love. Still I think that if you don’t want a direct impingement gun, you really shouldn’t buy an AR, and if you like the AR you should be buying a direct impingement gun.

Its the same idea of the various double-action 1911s that have been floating around for ages like the Colt Double Eagle or the PARA LDA. Nothing wrong with a DA pistol or DAO pistol, but if you WANT a DA pistol you should probably buy something that isn’t a 1911, and if you want a 1911, get a single-action gun.

That was how they were designed, and with all the monkey-work to get them to do tricks they were never intended to do, you can get some very strange and bad results.

If you don’t want a true AR platform, you might check out the Daewoo 200.

    I love mine.

can you still get those things? Neat guns, but never shot one.

        Hit Gunbroker or such.

The DR200 _IS_ a neat gun. I used to own one. It’s a mish-mash of features culled from other guns that comes out working quite well. My main concern with owning one today (and why I don’t own one now) is the utter lack of support should something break (like the ejector spring). You’re simply done because nobody’s making parts.

same with my reservation for the SCAR system. LOVE the rifle as a platform, its REALLY a great design overall….but parts and availability are low…and the gun is scary expensive!

This is part of my problem with magazine capacity restrictions. My XD (9mm) takes a 16-round magazine, but they also sell 10-rounders. I don’t know the internal configuration of the 10-rounders – whether they put a block in shutting off the last inch, or re-built the innards to make it a single-stack, or what – but I’m a bit of a purist and believe that if the gun/mag combo is design to hold 16+1 rounds, it should f$#king be allowed/able to hold 16+1 rounds!

Anything else is going against the manufacturers’ design and intent.

I know the Glock 10 round “single stack” are known for not running well.

Also in a gun built for 16 rounds, a 10 round magazine just leaves the gun mostly empty. Why bother?

I really want an M&P9, but I refuse to stuff 10 rounds where 17 were meant to go.
