Thought I’d share this story.
Applications in Hennepin County for permits to carry a gun in public are coming in at a furious pace this year and should easily set an annual record, authorities said Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office has received 1,875 applications through the first four months of 2012, spokeswoman Lisa Kiava said. That’s a 54 percent increase over the same time frame in 2011, which was the second busiest year for applications in the county since the 2003 permit law took effect.
By the end of the year, Sheriff Rich Stanek said, the county will “absolutely” break the annual record of 3,359 submitted applications set in 2008.
There is NOTHING new here, I don’t know of ANY place where permits are DOWN. Gun sales are wayy up, and people are obviously buying guns for defensive use, as opposed to the disproportionately high sale of sporting arms of decades past. People are getting comfortable with guns, and are seeing the light that they’re nice things to have around. You never know!
Of course the reason for me sharing what is essentially a standing headline in today’s news is because I found it from Joan Peterson gnashing her teeth.

Since 2003, the Sheriff’s Office in Hennepin County, the state’s most populous, has issued nearly 22,000 permits. About 3,300 of those were renewals, meaning there are roughly 18,700 permit holders in the county.
OK so is this shining light saying that ALL of these applications are renewals? That doesn’t seem likely, especially given that this trend is seen nation-wide. So are they saying that Minnesota residents are getting multiple permits just for the hell of it?
Are they using assumed names or multiple addresses? At $100 a pop, for no gain that seems VERY silly.

What purpose would “multiple permits” serve? You don’t need one for each gun…

I also wonder how high the “infective” fear is. There are many antis (usually of the fence sitter style), that went out and learned more about firearms and that led to them no longer being antis.
I recall your own journey. Sure the hard core Anti’s will never be swayed by learning the truth or going to the range, but they have to have seen some of their cohorts be “turned” due to such exposure.
We are dealing with people who put talismatic fear into inanimate objects. Why not do the same with knowledge?
It all depends on the risk tolerance of the person.
I remember in elementary school somebody was talking about how one of their parents had a bad back and had slipped a disk and were bedridden for a while.
They said “If you hit your back just right it goes out”
I remember seeing around ten little hands go behind their backs and start tapping….one of those hands were mine.

I tossed this article up also..And Hennepin county is the most left leaning, liberal county in the state and has the largest population by far…It is there that folks like, Klobuchar and Franken get elected and in the past Wellstone…of course the leftist enclave I am interned in gives them a run for their money on Liberal nutcases.
Hennepin County also has the most crime, shootings, robberies etc etc etc…

If the story I read about Joel Rosenberg’s trip to the sheriff’s office is true, then, no, multiple permits are not needed for multiple guns.

I would hazard a guess that permits are down in Arizona — ’cause most people don’t need a permit now.
But your basic point stands – across the board (firearm sales, permits, training, ammunition sales), everything indicates more and more people are starting to exercise their rights.
By the way, I’ll be taking two new shooters to the range this weekend.
