When your gun maker tells you not to shoot +P ammo DON’T SHOOT +P AMMO!!
When I bought my PM45 I was fully prepared to start testing some standard-pressure .45 loads for it. Then I read they’re rated for +P, so I tried out a mag, expecting the recoil to be too much, and I’d have to test some standard-pressure loads.
Turned out it was awesome, so Federal HST 230gr +P .45s for all my carry guns.
Even then, I don’t shoot +P all the time, as it still beats up your gun!

Yowza!
Federal HST +P 230gr is also what I carry. Can’t beat it. Being able to deploy 40 rounds before running dry means I’m going to stop whatever threat is coming at me.
Yeah, I’d say they cut the margins a tad fine, even if they DIDN’T want to rate it for +P. . .
Shooting +P ammo in a non-rated (but modern) pistol shouldn’t result in a CATASTROPHIC failure like that.
I agree. Most gun makers run proof loads though their guns to see how many double-charges the action can survive, or just a single just to make sure the gun will survive an oops moment like this.
According to the story it was just one magazine loaded with hot loads. That reasonably could be considered enough to get a tight gun to start to rattle, or maybe improperly headspace…but splitting the barrel like that seems to speak of the quality of the Dimondback Pistols.
well, at least the locking block held up OK.
