Shooting is Fun!

Look at how much fun he’s having just shooting a simple steel target! This is why the antis lose!

Man I kinda want to try this now!

At our last blog shoot, James The Redneck Engineer created some steel targets for the rifle range. It was a blast to see folks ringing them at 50,100, 200 and even 300 yards. Mostly the Barrett M82 at 300.

My daughter in law who had shot 1 weekend before was able to hit the metal at all the ranges – frequently. Got her hooked big time on shooting rifles, even my Mosins.

Yeah, this is one of the reason we win: Fun. The other is the lies evaporate when people start shooting – Have to be highly trained to be safe, to shoot accurately. Guns are only designed to kill people yah, tell that to the kid plinking steel varmints at the range.

I’ll second what Bob said. It’s just pure fun at any distance.

I got many a woman shooter hooked on shooting at my old range in Midland, Texas. They had a section of the range that was 250 yards deep, and 300 yards wide, and every 15 yards there were several steel targets set up, from 3″ tall to life-sized deer and sheep. No rifles, pistols and .22s only. Addictive doesn’t even begin to describe it.

The PITA was finding out that the deer at 100 yards I’d spent two boxes of .45 on trying to knock down was actually welded in place. =/

I’ve never seen brighter smiles than those of a new shooter hitting a target. It doesn’t matter if they’re 6 or 60, the smile’s the same. That’s what THEY don’t understand until you prove it to them. Shooting is fun, and with a bit of care, is very safe and a great way to bond with children, co-workers and even THEM. (if they’re not too far gone)

That is wrong on so many levels, but it’s still funny as hell.

I had a hell of a time with the 200y gong and a 9mm AR. Sure it took me half a magazine and three spotters, but holy crap that was FUN!

Definitely, shooting steel at any distance is fun- with immediate results return. When my brother learned I regularly shoot an eight inch plate at 100 with my .22 pistols, he was skeptical.
    Then he tried it.
A better shot than I at ‘normal’ distances, it took him a while to get the ‘drift’ (wink/pun) of aiming, but once he did… Katie bar the door! he’s hooked on L-D and pistols now.
Just got to love it when you can get family encouraged in something you enjoy.

Balloons and empty (or full) cans also make for cheap and easy fun. Also it gives a better feel for practical shooting. If you’re hunting or doing self defense you don’t need to do a 2″ group…you just need to get hits on target, hopefully in the “A Zone”.
