Things I Don’t Get

“Non Of The Above Ballot Options”:

A quirky Nevada law that Republicans feared could siphon votes from a disgruntled electorate and sway the outcome of close presidential and U.S. Senate races in the state was struck down Wednesday by a federal judge.

U.S. District Judge Robert Jones said the state’s decades-old ballot alternative of “none of the above” was unconstitutional because votes for “none” don’t count in the final tallies that determine winners.

Now this box WOULD make sense if the “None” box WON the general election, that it would trigger a new primary and special election, preferably with the old candidates excluded from the primary. But in this case it means “None of the Above wins, but you got second place, so you win!” which is just good for moral!

So yeah this sounds like a waste of time. If you want to send a message just leave the box blank. A local radio host used to compare the number of votes Ted Kennedy would get on his many unopposed Senate runs vs. the ballots submitted to show how willing people were to vote for the murderous drunk.

None VonAbove would be a good name for a rock band, or a wizard in a cheap fantasy novel.
