Tory Go Home!

Interesting little news clip. Brit Peirs Morgan makes it pretty clear he isn’t comfortable in American and he’d better go back to England

Btw bonus points for “Gun Death”, and bonus points for talking about the Second Amendment being drafted in the “Era of the Musket” while engaging in his rights to a free press over a SATELLITE UP-LINK!!! Yeah the founding fathers never could have thought about a self-loading repeating firearm like the AR-15 ever being possible, but the idea that we might have machines in SPACE that allow for people on different continents to converse as if they are sitting in the same room as totally conceivable.

Oh and also note the black gentleman’s call for “Common Sense” saying that “You can have a 9mm, you can have a .38, you can have a shotgun, just ban the AK-47!”.

Of course from all accounts most of the victims were wounded with the shotgun and the glock as the AR-15 jammed shortly into the rampage.

Oh and one last thing, I like how they talk about the bi-partisan support for gun control in the 90s, but now point that Republicans are lock-step on the 2nd Amendment now, and Democrats are “Avoiding the issue”. Well to be fair some anti-gun Republicans, like Romney, are simply avoiding the issue, and there are many Democrats that are in fact pro-gun.

To quote Tam:

Listening to media personalities and politicians pontificating on firearms and firearms laws is like listening to eighth graders pontificate on sex.

They sure don’t let lack of any first hand knowledge dampen their enthusiastically-held opinions.

Yep

  1. Jack says:

The muskets versus AK47 betrays several deep historical ignorances.

For one, muskets were not the only weapon at the time. Rifled weapons were also rather common.

And as you said the AK47 wasn’t used. The AK47 is old technology (whadda think those numbers are for). And a true AK47 falls under the NFA with a closed registry.
“Shocking” that that never comes up.

I’ll just add this. In 1807 Forsyth patented the percussion cap. This was only 15 years after the Bill of Rights was ratified. Most of the Founders were around at that time. Forsyth’s invention led to a radically new firearm action that was far more reliable.

And in 1836, Samuel Colt patented the percussion cap revolver. So about 45 years after the ratification of the Second Amendment another radically new firearm invention came out. One that dramatically increased the firepower, speed, and reliability of a weapon.

You went from having handguns and rifles that fired one shot before reloading to ones that could fire six. And do so reliably. This was a quantum leap in arms technology.

And yet… the Second Amendment was still considered operative. Hell it could have been repealed or modified back then. Especially in light of a massive increase in firepower that happened and became common place within living memory of the ratification of the Second Amendment.

So we see the whole “The Founders would never have expected this!” is not just bullshit given that free speech via intercontinental, video, satellite unlink is just fine, but also BS in the history of firearms development.

Of course this focus on the AK-47 is being pushed and selected as this is the one gun the antis and the media know about and is the one that seems the most scary to them. We can see this at work where AK-47 “variants” that shoot 22 lr have become banned, while the VZ58 which is functionally identical to an AK47 is perfectly illegal.

It’s like letting abortion policy be set by someone that thinks women give birth through their belly buttons. And if you challenge them they scream about the “Cesarian Loophole”.
