Illinois will join the world of Concealed carry!
The Illinois legislature agreed Friday to allow people to carry concealed guns, which if signed into law would make the state the last in the country to allow the public possession of concealed firearms.
The compromise plan by the House and Senate followed a federal appeals ruling that stated Illinois’ concealed carry ban is unconstitutional and that the state must change it by June 9.
Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat, has not said whether he will sign the legislation into law. However, the bill has enough votes in the legislature to override a gubernatorial veto.
All 50 states allow residents in some form to carry a weapon outside their home.
The appeals court ruling stated the ban violated the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment right to bear arms.
It always amazes me when ONE state has a unique set of laws. This country is vast, and the pine forests of Maine is vastly different from the swamps of Louisiana, are different from the Western Plains, from the Rocky Mountains, or the High Desert etc.
Still this country isn’t THAT different, and when your one state stands out its generally an issue of YOU doing something horribly wrong, rather than being some beacon of progress.
Illinois had it wrong, soon they’ll have it right….kinda.
Good news to all of you in Illinois! Now carry your damn guns!

Can we really count Hawaii? I thought their may issue policy was to say “no” to every single applicant, and that they have a total of zero permits issued. Is that right?
New Jersey is the same way. There are a few Hawaiian CHLs out there, but overall the answer is indeed “no”.
That’s a court challenge for the future.
When I was first stationed there they brought in a police spokesperson to discuss their laws and he proudly proclaimed that they only issued one permit, to the armorer who handled the police guns. That was back in 2003, but I would be surprised if it changed.
The definition of “soon” appears to be quite malleable in the Peoples Democratic Republic of Illinois. I shall opine that it will be one calender year before anyone can even apply for a concealed carry permit.
