Here’s another unintended consequence of the War on Drugs
A New York man died after being nearly decapitated by a booby trap he set to protect marijuana plants on his property….The wire appeared to be the type used in pianos, but Apple said it’s unclear what purpose it served as a security measure. Other components of the booby traps included barbed wire and a leg trap similar to those used to trap coyotes.
Let’s take a high-dollar item on my property. Say my Car, or my Lawn Mower. Some jerk steals it, I’ll be upset, but I can call the cops and they’ll look for it for me. I can also call my insurance company and they’ll cover the theft.
You can’t do that if your valuable commodity is contraband. Now first up, a Marijuana plant is valuable. Think about that, pot is easy to get a hold of, and often you’ll get a few seeds in with your product. These seeds are easy to grow, I’ve seen more than a few people in college who had gotten a plant to sprout from discarded seeds. My Neighbor grows tomatoes. They’re wicked yummy and I enjoy them…yet nobody steals her tomato plants. They aren’t worth it.
That’s because tomatoes are legal. You want a tomato plant, just grow your own, or go to a grocery store or farmer’s market and buy some.
Now this weed is valuable because its illegal, and because its illegal you can’t call the cops, so you need to protect it on your own. These traps were the protection, and they killed somebody.
End the War on Drugs, and quit claiming only “Gun Deaths” count.
