A classic Carter Family tune, added only by the performance of of two generations of the Carter Family:
Johnny and June are both dead, John Carter is still singing, and has kids of his own.
I got thinking about this performance when I was noting that my wife found out she was pregnant only a few weeks after my Grandmother, her Grandmother, and her Uncle had all died.
The circle will indeed be unbroken.
I’m having Bioshock flashbacks! quick, someone pass the salts!
Never played it. What’s the joke?
Not really a joke so much as a reference. Bioshock Infinite featured this song twice in it’s soundtrack as some of the words are very apropos to the story/setting.
Oh neat, I didn’t know they used licensed songs in that game.
I don’t think they were licensed as both were original performances of the original hymn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e4Crth_Hb8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4cWPKRhwIc
I think the only licensed song they used was Nico Vega’s ‘Beast’ which I’d also recommend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7OYLVznNvQ
Very cool! Thanks!
Yeah I was familiar with Beast (at least from the ad, didn’t know it was in-game music as well), but I hadn’t heard the others.
I still prefer the Carter Family variants of the song.
Technically the only use of Beast that I know of is i the intro that plays before the main menu, which, as with many games, is that same trailer. If you ask me though if it’s on the disc it’s part of the soundtrack.
Games are one my primary avenues of musical discovery, if it weren’t for the Fallout series I wouldn’t know about the Ink Spots or Marty Robbins.
