Ban on Saggy Pants in Louisiana:

Opposed opinions on underpants etiquette are butting up against each other in the ongoing saga of sagging.

A Louisiana town wants to prohibit people from sagging, or wearing pants below the waist and exposing their underwear.

The ban would set a high price on low pants, slapping violators with a series of fines: $50 for the first offense, $100 for the second and $100 and 16 hours of public service for each subsequent offence.

The Terrebonne Parish Town Council voted 8 -1 to pass the ordinance, which the parish’s president is expected to sign into law, reported WWL-TV.

“Appearing in public view while exposing one’s skin or undergarments below the waist is contrary to safety, health, peace and good order of the parish and the general welfare,” the ordinance reads.

Before the vote, Jerome Boykin, president of the local chapter of the NAACP, argued in favor of the sagging ban.

“There is nothing positive about people wearing saggy pants,” he said. “This is not a black issue, this is not a white issue, this is a people issue.”

No its Nannies addressing a symptom while ignoring a problem. Low pants are a fashion for gangs, but in itself harms nobody, and is just as harmful for plumbers as it is to “Urban Youth”.

If you’re worried about gangs, send police after the gangs. If this is a public nudity thing, then use that law, otherwise quit piling dumb laws onto dumb laws.

And yet walking down the street to the public pool in a string bikini, or a ‘banana hammock’ speedo is perfectly legal. Out of place maybe…but perfectly legal.

    Go figure…

And yet, 50 year old, 300 lb Elmer Fudd could walk down the street with his Plumber’s Crack available for all the world to admire.

    Dumb.

The best way to get kids to stop wearing sag pants is to tell them what they signify:

California prison inmates would wear their pants halfway down their ass to let other inmates know they were selling sexual services.

I am completely against this kind of legislation. I could blow smoke up your ass and say it’s because of freedom, liberty, less government intrusion, and all that, well… yea, those thing too… but the main reason that I am against this kind of legislation is because that (lack of) style provides a good way to filter people. Any dude that I see walking around with his pants down below his ass, I just write off as an ignoramus who is not worth my time. If they are forced to wear their pants properly, I might accidentally waste my time dealing with someone who, if allowed to dress themselves without state intervention, I would be able to tell is too stupid to figure out how to do something as simple as wearing pants properly.

Not so long ago, I came across a young man who had taken the whole saggy britches, over-size pants thing a little too far. In order to merely walk across the room, he had to hold up his pants for fear of losing them altogether. That he chose to do so by holding said pants by the crotch rather than the top made him look even more ridiculous. Poor guy was trying to shop at the supermarket like that, but found that he couldn’t effectively push a cart or carry more than one item at a time. It would have been laughable, if it wasn’t so sad.
