My Favorite Ska Song

Long day in the office today, and on top of that my employer doesn’t think a city-wide declaration of martial law is a legitimate reason to not show up to a lab that is on full lockdown.

It’ll all sort out, so let’s hear some awesome ska!

Very nice, but not quite the ska I’m used to. I’m old.

I love how employers think their guidelines trump law enforcement. Mine says that we’re expected to show up for work even if the police have declared the roads unsafe for travel.

Technically that’s ska punk or third wave ;-). I do like Mustard Plug, good stuff.

Third Wave fits in the overall genre of Ska, and Ska since its inception has been a fusion genre. The first Ska bands heard bad transmissions of American Big-Band Jazz over the radio in Jamaica and filled in the crackly parts with Calypso. By the time the 3rd Wave hit America (from the 2nd Wave in the UK) Rock, Punk, and Funk were all mixed in to boot.

Certainly Mustard Plug is more punk influenced than some Ska bands of the time, but they’re hardly Ska-core like the Mighty Mighty Bostones, or Thumper among others.
