Unrelated, but I had promised I would ask the friend of mine that was making ice balls what his method was.
So he’s using an insulated thermos with water in it to float the silicon round molds so that the ice freezes directionally and has the least amount of pressure cracks that create the clouding.
Downside is you have to chip out each mold from the thermos block.
It’s clever and results in some nice looking ice balls, but a bit cumbersome, not terrible though.
I’ve been putting a small amount of water in the top of the mold to weight it down, and that has REALLY helped. I’ll update the post for future searches.
