Printed AR

A great little piece on the 3D printed AR.

I’ll also note that I’ve witnessed AR receivers being built at York Arms, and it really isn’t magic.

Incidentally, the first 3D printed gun was fired recently.
Only non printed parts were the striker spring and the firing pin (made from a nail).
Design was by someone I know in Dallas, actual printing and testing were done by an individual in a 3rd world country.
4 shots of 22lr were fired successfully by the gun, the fourth cartridge was not extractable due to having melded with the barrel.
    Overall pretty successful.

My printer is supposedly being constructed as we speak, with delivery in the late summer, assuming all goes well.

The end goal is pretty much what D2K describes – something that can get off at least a few shots using an absolute bare minimum of metal pieces. Because I can.

You may already be aware of this, but if you plan on printing a gun in the next few months you’ll need to include some 10.something ounces of metal, the Undetectable Firearms Act doesn’t expire until the end of this year.
Hopefully Rep. Israel doesn’t get his extension passed.
