Right To Die

I’ve never got the whole opposition to doctor assisted suicide:

So long as the decision is mutual with the patient still of sound mind, and the administration is done by the patient themselves. It seems odd that we will allow our pets to die comfortably and with dignity, but yet won’t let our own people do the same, even if they are BEGGING for it.

Also these doctor assisted methods can be safer, cleaner, and have less potential harm to others than many more traditional suicide methods.

Why are we even discussing this? I couldn’t think of anything more reasonable!

  1. Robert Evans says:

I think it should be considered one of the inalienable rights, myself. If you have the right to life, you also have the right to end that life at your discretion, not the state’s.

  2. Rob Crawford says:

The problem is that the countries that have adopted this have shown a silent, easy slide towards “doctor led” euthanasia. It’s rather like the way gun registration leads to confiscation — making it openly acceptable for doctors to end lives leads to them taking the lead on the question.

Hence the sound mind and self-administration.

Still there is NEVER a way for a doctor not to be corrupted. Hence why we need to keep an open system where second opinions are common and easy.
