This is a sad, but avoidable story:
A 6-year-old girl died Thursday afternoon when she was run over by an ice cream truck on the Southwest Side.Lopez said that as the truck’s driver, a 50-year-old man, was trying to turn around on a dead-end street, April jumped onto the vehicle’s rear bumper without the driver realizing it.
As the truck rolled backward, April fell and got caught under a tire, Lopez said.
The driver really couldn’t avoid this, but the kids should have known you do NOT interact with moving vehicles, no matter how slow. My folks taught this to me at a very young age, and I will be teaching my own daughter this.
