“Gun Death” Troubled Youth

Have a look at this story:

A 16-year-old boy who was living in a group foster home when he was accused of fatally stabbing a jogger in a central Ohio park last year will be sentenced to life in prison as part of a plea agreement.

…The boy won’t be eligible for parole for 18 years.

No details given why he killed the 55 year old man, nor why he was in foster care. Now the question comes, is this “Bad Justice”? Life in prison is just about right for me, frankly I see a case like this as fine for the death penalty, as there is a LOT wrong with this boy to be in the situation he is.

Still 16 is pretty young, but he’ll get his first parole hearing at 34. That’s still in his prime. Will he be a danger to society, or will this be enough for him to turn his life around?

What do you think?

  1. I think that he’s obviously already messed-up if he killed someone, and after spending years and years in prison, if he wasn’t already messed-up, he certainly will be by the time he’s released. Very few people are actually rehabilitated in prison, it’s more like Criminal U, where all the skills and attitudes for a life of crime are learned. *sigh*

I am a CO in MA. You may have read that the powers that be have decided that life without parole for minors is cruel and unusual so all of them get a chance at parole now. I know many of the “individuals” from the articles; 2 of them are in my block. They were damaged when they arrived and have gotten worse. I would not want to be around any of them after some bleeding heart sees fit to give them another chance. There’s a reason I believe in CONSTANT concealed carry and this job has only reinforced that. I had no idea what real monsters were until I looked into the eyes of a teenage murderer. They’re broken and CANNOT be fixed. I have 15 years left until retirement and it cannot come soon enough.
