Nior on “Designed to Kill”

Design does not transfer intent.

And let’s face it, designing something to kill other people is a GOOD thing when we have laws that state when a person can legally kill another.

The anti-gun people CLAIM they aren’t against self defense, still I’d love to ask one of them if it would be OK for me to stab a mugger to death with my knife? Would it be OK for a woman to beat a rapist to death with a collapsible baton?

I think the answers vary, I’ve met some antis where “guns are different BECAUSE they are different” seems to apply, and others that believe under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should one person take another person’s life.

If you’re pro self-defense you SHOULD be pro gun. It’s the best tool for the job, and it’s easily usable by all ages and body types.

Oh and just because of that whole “Designed to Kill” doesn’t mean guns are particularly GOOD at that job from a field prospective. First most defensive gun uses no shots are fired. A good chunk of that small number where a round is discharged no shots hit any living target. From the people who actually get holed in a gunfight most survive that!

Compare that one 9mm Wound to say the 20+ thrusts to the liver I’d deliver if I found myself in a knife fight. To that person who was beaten to the ground by baton-strikes to the head and shoulders.

So yeah, silly argument by silly people.

The baseball bat is just a club, a tool designed millions of years ago for the specific job of killing things.

And people give them to children!!!!111!!!
    With no training!

I’m not a rapper guy, but congrats to Nior. I read the linked NYT article. My reason for not buying a handgun a few weeks ago was that I didn’t think I was interested enough to become a proficient shooter. The NYT article helped me articulate my feeling. I wasn’t–and still am not–prepared to spend money and range time to cultivate lawful double- and triple-tap skills to quickly thwart a home invader with force, up to deadly force, which is permitted in Ohio. (FWIW-a local homeowner and unskilled/unmotivated shooter recently presented her handgun to a home invader, who promptly grabbed the gun, pistol-whipped the bejesus out of her, and made off with the drugs and other property he wanted.)

The intro line to Weer’d’s post says a lot. “Design does not transfer intent”.
