Some Kahr Love

Wow cool deal if you’re in the market for these, now is the time!

Now Jeff calls them “Full Size”, but really they’re closer to the standard definition of “Compact”, but they ARE the biggest guns Kahr makes.

They’re cool guns, they’re accurate and easy to shoot guns. All the safety features you need for a good carry gun, none of the features you don’t.

Now with the price discounts and that extra magazine, that’s a SMOKING deal.

Let me know if you grab one! (I can’t because they aren’t “Safe” for Massachusetts residents)

I have a Kahr CM9 and it is my go to carry gun for places where CCW is allowed but might be frowned upon. Other than one bad magazine (just needed some polishing), the gun has been 100% reliable and gobbles up anything I feed it. In spite of its small size I actually shoot it slightly better than my Glock 19 with a Lone Wolf Barrel.

I’d also like to add that Viridian just released a green instant on (with the right holster) laser for these guns. I picked one up but it’s off at my preferred holster maker (http://www.nelsonholsters.com/) so he can fit the ECR feature to the holster I ordered. I’ll post a thorough review of both products when I get them back in a few weeks.

Kahr DOES make larger guns. They make “full size” versions intended for open belt carry (such as cops). They even make that line in the “economy” polymer lower flavor at a great price savings.

Unfortunately, they ALSO are single stack only, even in 9x19mm and .40S&W, which limits their appeal severely. See, I’d buy a full size 9x19mm or .40S&W Kahr if it was double stack — I really like their triggers. But why would I want a “full size” DAO Kahr, say in 9mm, that holds less ammo than my “subcompact” Sig?

As somebody who carries a Commander 1911, It is sometimes VERY nice to carry a super THIN gun that is otherwise larger.

I find that wider guns print more, and press into my body more than thinner guns, so even if I lived in a free state where I could get a M&P9 with the big-boy magazines, I still think I’d carry my commander.

If I want a thin gun, I generally want wane that is shorter than “service sized”, and I’ll carry something like the standard Kahrs. I mean, one reason I like wearing a Commander is that, unlike a full size (5″) Gov’t Model, the muzzle doesn’t hit the seat a half second before my butt does.

If I am carrying a 5″ service pistol, I’m less concerned with concealability. And Kahr was originally marketing the full size pistols for law enforcement uniformed use. They *totally* screwed the pooch on marketing by not going with a double stack mag design for at least the .40 and 9mm versions of the “Tactical” line. (I don’t know anyone who has actually bought one, but I have run into *dozens* – including people who already own one of the smaller Kahr pistols – who would buy one if it had double stack mags, and ended up buying other full sized double stack pistols instead. And the complaint is always the same — “I love the feel and trigger of the Kahr, and it would be like my carry gun, but why would I want a full sized seerrvice pistol that holds half the ammunition of any number of other good choices?”)
