“Gun Death” Alcohol Poisoning

Interesting article:

To the surprise of even health officials, it turns out that most deaths from drinking too much involve middle-aged adults — not teens or college kids.

A report Tuesday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found six Americans die each day from alcohol poisoning. CDC officials said three-quarters of those deaths are adults ages 35 to 64, and most are men. CDC officials said they thought more would be younger.

You always hear about drunken college students and High School kids killing themselves with booze…but it seems that more seasoned drinkers are the one who wind up dead.

Interesting article…but also not “Gun Death”.

As someone mentioned on the Trib site… why is this news?

There’ve gotta be some qualitative ways of distinguishing unlawful deaths by firearms from alcohol and other drug ODs, car accidents, etc., to help put the lid on the anti-rights/anti-gun talk.

I’m not sure I know what I’m getting at, either. Call it “quantum of adrenalin theory” (bad term), or something. We’ve got lots of people meeting premature ends without, I think, having a thought about offing themselves. That number is pretty big. I’ve never been in a gunfight, but I’ll guess the shooters will be big-time pumped to threaten harm or ward off harm.

Again, I’m overreaching. But there seems to me a qualitative aspect to having a whole mess of people dying accidentally without intention or inter-human conflict, and a far smaller number dying where there’s a whole mess of human conflict. Just a thought.
