What’s with it with unethical climate scientists and getting their dirty laundry leaked?
A preliminary draft of a report by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was leaked to the public this month, and climate skeptics say it contains fresh evidence of 20 years of overstated global warming.
The report — which is not scheduled for publication until 2014 — was leaked by someone involved in the IPCC’s review process, and is available for download online. Bloggers combing through the report discovered a chart comparing the four temperature models the group has published since 1990. Each has overstated the rise in temperature that Earth actually experienced.
“Temperatures have not risen nearly as much as almost all of the climate models predicted,” Roy Spencer, a climatologist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, told FoxNews.com.
People need to remember that scientists tend to start off as idealists wanting to do good with their work, not line their pockets on the latest political angle to tax the rich. They need to be more vigilant about making sure even the new internists are quality dirty scientists, because otherwise when they find out the science is all junk and for perpetuating junk grants, they might feel a bit betrayed….you know, the same feeling the people of the world might feel for being force-fed the politics and taxes used to perpetuate this crap.
Also gotta love the numbers:
The IPCC graph shows that the midpoints of the various models predicted that the world would warm by between about 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit and 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit between 1990 and 2012. Actual warming was much less than that: 0.28 F, according the data the IPCC cites.
‘It is evidence that CO2 is not nearly as strong a climate driver as the IPCC has been assuming.’
– Roy Spencer, a climatologist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville
But that doesn’t mean the IPCC models are wrong, others argue.
It doesn’t mean the models are “WRONG” they’re just “So inaccurate that their results have little bearing on reality”.
Uh huh…..

And the general public views every blip in temperature or bad storm as climate change when in reality it’s just weather. There’s a big difference between the two.
Uh, isn’t one definition of Insanity the concept of doing the same Wrong thing over and over and over, thinking you’ll get it Right the next time?
But this just proves that the “Global Warming Crowd” is about as concerned for the “Environment” as the “Gun Control Crowd” is about “Gun Safety.”
The only thing both groups want is Total Control over their various Areas so they can bring about a New Utopia where Children can Safely Fly through Clean Air on their Winged Unicorns w/o having to be worried about getting shot!
“It doesn’t mean the models are “WRONG” they’re just “So inaccurate that their results have little bearing on reality”.”
That line is brilliant! It works for so many situations!
Gun Control models aren’t “WRONG”….
Economic models built around QE-whatever aren’t “WRONG”….
Media-propagated news stories about conservatives aren’t “WRONG”….
Government-run educational models aren’t “WRONG”….
Yeah, I’m totally stealing that! 😉
I’m a geologist, not a climate scientist–I shamelessly line my pockets by working at an earth-raping open pit gold mine–but I am familiar enough with the science involved and research methodology in general to call BULLSHIT! on practically everything these clowns say.
I’m not going to sit here and say that man has absolutely no effect on global warming, but I will say: A) the global climate is so complex and there are so many driving factors that I doubt we’ll be able to model it in my lifetime; B) the Earth went through, conservatively, hundreds of warming and cooling cycles before man even discovered fire; C) there is so much propagation of error in their data sets and models that their error bars alone wipe out any possible trend discovery; and D) Milankovitch cycles, bitches.
The major problems–besides the atrocious science these clowns come out with, which should have had them laughed out of the fucking profession–are the lack of general science knowledge in the public and the misrepresentations of global warming by the media. Not only do people not really understand the consequences of increased global temperatures, but they don’t understand that the scale of temperature increase the “scientists” are talking about is very small: a few degrees C. So, the use of scare tactics on scientifically illiterate people has created a huge panic over nothing.
I’m a mere 27 years old. Yet, I can remember clearly at least two major environmental scares besides global warming that people freaked the fuck out over: killer bees, and the ozone layer. I haven’t heard a damn thing about either of those in the last decade, at least. I wouldn’t really care, so long as the scares weren’t used as vehicles for social change, but as long as masses of idiots (well, ignorant people, not necessarily idiots) are convinced the sky is falling and WE MUST DO SOMETHING11!!1, my life is going to continue to get fucked with, and I am not at all cool with that.
It is irresponsible to pollute and otherwise damage the environment, surely. However, it is orders of magnitude more irresponsible to garrote the economies of the entire first world in the name of saving the planet from a problem (if it is one–we don’t know!) we don’t even halfway understand yet. That is especially true in light of the fact that most of the efforts we make to “save the environment” end up creating more problems than they solve.
Don’t forget Acid Rain!!!
I remember hearing that aquatic birds and amphibians were going to be extinct by the late 90s because of all the acid rain!
People have totally forgotten about that whopper!
Even if any of this is true, they’ve cried Wolf a whole lot over a short period of time…and gotten rich over it!
