The city has agreed to give $40,000 to two women whose pickup was shot up by a Police Department protection detail that mistook their newspaper delivery vehicle for the truck driven by rogue ex-cop Christopher Dorner during his rampage, officials announced Thursday.
The tax-free settlement covering the pickup and other property came quickly after the women’s attorney, Glen Jonas, rejected Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck’s offer of a replacement truck because the women would have had to pay taxes. The deal specified no admission of liability.
Let’s hope that’s JUST for the damaged truck:
Jonas, who noted he has waived all his fees, said he hoped that all other issues including personal injury can be resolved without the need to file a lawsuit or have a trial.
I’m not a lawyer, does this statement mean that this was JUST for the loss of a pickup truck? Does this mean damages from injury and nearly being murdered by a police death squad are still in the works?
I’m still upset that no criminal charges have been leveled, both because these actions WERE criminal, and the fact that the officers haven’t been charged shows the cooperation of the LAPD and city and state government.

Yep, it means that was just for the truck. It means the city was too daft to realize that replacing their truck with a truck (WHY would they suggest that?) could have a tax implication for the victims.
Some are more equal than others. The thugs with a badge can’t be bothered with liability.
The LAPD was hoping to get out of admitting wrongdoing with the truck offer.
I think they have seen the writing on the wall, now that a lawyer has been found for the victims. Handing over a new truck now, and paying the taxes on it will lower the final settlement bill, and avoid some interest charges.
I’d STILL sue them…
