From hate-filled bigot Kay in Maine
What happened to Ronald Reagan when he was surrounded by people with guns? That’s right. He was shot. To say that if everyone carried a gun, we would all be protected and bad people would be shot before he/she could kill more people is idiotic. Reagan was surrounded by guys with guns and the shooter was still able to get him along with others who were carrying guns.
I think insanity must be a pre-requisite for being a Marxist. First up President Reagan was surrounded by people with guns for most of his political career. Certainly as Governor of California, and until the day of his death. Same goes with every President since. Are you saying Obama should relinquish his secret service detail? Of course not.
2nd Kay’s little prattling about “What if Everybody Was Carrying a Gun?” sounds really funny when you note that she lives in Central Maine.
Hey Kay, when you’re out in public, you very well may be the ONLY person WITHOUT a gun. Portland has its share of Anti-Gun Wussies, and the coast is covered with transplants from Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey. But if you do your big shopping at the Bangor Mall, or in Lewiston or Auburn, there’s probably a gun in damn near every coat around you.
Is it really that scary?

Now she’ll be too terrified to leave her house ever again!
Wouldn’t that be awesome?
In looking at that post, I saw two arguments I particularly hate: “Everyone had a gun, but Reagan got shot anyway” and “If everyone had a gun, everyone would be shooting each other”.
I despise the first, having a gun isn’t a magic talisman that automatically makes people safe–having a gun allows you defend your life if you are attacked. You might not live through the attack–for whatever reason–but having a gun evens the odds, so at least you’ll have a fighting chance.
And I despise the second, because it dismisses the abilities of individuals to assess the situation, and act accordingly. When a gunman is on the rampage, it’s often relatively easy to figure out who’s the shooter, and who pulled their gun out for self defense–and if it’s not easy, then the appropriate thing to do is to hold your fire! If the scenario that antis fear so much actually happened often, there would be plenty of examples for antis to draw on. I have yet to hear one example, though.
Actually, I’ve heard of two: Luby’s massacre, where it was claimed recently by a politician that concealed weapons holders shot a lot of people (which would be interesting, considering that there was no legal “concealed carry” at the time–and that the gunman was the only one there shooting people before cops arrived); and I heard of an episode of ER, where a concealed carrier shot several innocent people before shooting the gunman. Both don’t count, because both are fiction.
Yeah but these people live in manufactured reality, so fiction is the realest thing to them.
Weerd, I love your blog and figured I’d visit the link before I commented. Having visited Kay’s place, now I can accurately comment. And it did change my comment a bit too – now I’m more concerned that you aren’t posting warnings to go with those links. I feel dumber after visiting her page…
I went to Lewiston once, unarmed. Only once though. Never made that mistake with anyplace in Bangor.
Her stupid is a magic kind of stupid. BTW she was running for town office last fall…that was until somebody linked her campaign with her blog, then she promptly dropped out. LOL.
The word “anecdote” means nothing to these people, does it?
A firearm is not a shield. It does not operate automatically (even “automatics” require a human finger on the trigger, or at least an obstruction therein). And, sometimes, humans get the drop on each other and bad things happen.
It would take a true idiot to isolate one specific example of one human surprising a collection of other humans, and hold that up as a proof that citizens bearing arms are doomed to failure.
… Oh…. wait…
I thought about adding a comment when I first saw that post but didn’t because she blocks all my posts. I believe her skewed thought process and lack of logic are beyond help.
I agree with Alpheus on the two arguments he particularly hates. The first is just plain stupid and could only appeal to people like Kay. The second has been proven false over the years and more and more states have allowed CCW and the predictions of blood running in the streets has NEVER materialized.
The truth is out there for anyone willing to look honestly at the statistics. Bigots like Kay will never debate the facts honestly. Someone told me that Kay only started her blog after getting banned for blogging several conservative blogs. I’ll never know for sure but it sounded quite plausible to me.
Yeah, guns don’t protect the president so lets just disarm the Secret Service. LOL!
Hey Kay, when you’re out in public, you very well may be the ONLY person WITHOUT a gun.
What if she’s channeling her inner Carl Rowan?
