Bad Justice: Regrets

This is a really sad story on so many levels:

Essie Billingslea, the Level 3 sex offender accused of breaking into an Arlington home and raping a woman at knifepoint last weekend, was released from prison two years ago after a jury decided he would not be likely to rape again. Now one of those jurors is speaking out about the decision.

The Boston Herald reported that the juror, who chose to remain anonymous over concerns about his safety, heard the news out of Arlington and was hoping it was a different person, adding that he felt “terrible” and that the jury “failed.” He even went so far as to suggest that “maybe he fooled us.” He also said he is frustrated that the Department of Corrections did not make a stronger case for keeping Billingslea behind bars.

Now not only is this a sad case that a woman was violated on so many levels by somebody who WAS behind bars and released, this does seem like a case where the justice system was working. He was sentenced to indefinite treatment in a mental hospital for his crimes, but he petitioned for a jury trial. He obviously snowed them, and that’s to be expected, as monsters like this don’t live long if they can’t put on a charming facade.

It’s also sad that at least one jury member see the blood on his hands. Now in many of these cases tagged “bad justice”, I’m arguing for reform of a system that has become too lax to those who have proven to be a danger. In this case I just see this as an innate flaw to any system. Judges are just one person, and they are fallible humans like anybody else. To petition to be judged by a jury of your peers is about the best form of justice we have, as you are at the mercy of MULTIPLE people to make your case.

In this case he fooled them, and another woman has been raped. Now my only regret is while he has proven himself to be a broken human being who will never be safe while unsupervised, we can’t do the right thing and execute him with respect and dignity. In stead the state will simply make him a danger ONLY to mental health staffers, guards, and other patients of the mental facility.

Whatever you feel about the death penalty, can you really say THAT sentence is right?

“Gun Death” Chemical Weapons

Interesting story:

A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that prosecutors may not rely on an international chemical weapons treaty to convict a woman who attacked her husband’s mistress.

…The justices threw out the conviction of REDACTED of Lansdale, Pa., who was prosecuted under a 1999 law based on the chemical weapons treaty. REDACTED served a six-year prison term after being convicted of using toxic chemicals that caused a thumb burn on a friend who had become her husband’s lover.

The intent of the chemical weapons treaty was to prevent a repeat of the use of mustard gas in World War I or toxic weapons in the Iraq-Iran war in the early 1980s, not “an amateur attempt by a jilted wife to injure her husband’s lover,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court.

Interesting view on international law, and not a “Gun Death” to boot!

High Capacity History

Great Video!

I hadn’t realized that these rifles were issued to the Austrian army and if you do a little reading these were Issued Infantry rifles in 1780!

That’s a decade before the drafting and ratification of the 2nd Amendment!

So not only did high capacity repeating rifles exist at the time of the 2nd Amendment, but you can imagine the founding fathers could imagine ways to improve on this system. Further for those who are stuck on the whole “Air Gun” thing, these were NOT pellet rifles, from what I read they were close to the power of a modern 230 grain .45 ACP. Not as powerful as some rifles of the time, but still nothing to sneeze at!

But yeah, we can’t allow lawful citizens to own an AR-15 because the founding fathers only knew about flintlock muskets!

More of This!

I’m glad to see this!

The U.S. Agriculture Department is known for its army of statisticians packing yardsticks and calculators to measure wheat and count soybeans.

But the agency needs more firepower for another kind of rural reckoning and is gearing up with thermal imaging weapons.

In its crosshairs are aggressive feral hogs that can weigh more than 400 lbs (180 kg) and have been known to carry off newborn calves. They cause about $1.5 billion of damage every year to farm communities and fields, say department officials, and now there are worries they may help spread a deadly pig virus.

So the USDA wants to buy thermal scopes that snap onto high-powered rifles to kill the wild beasts.

“We’re going to get them, oh yes we are,” said Jason Wilking with USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), which has put out bids for 11 scopes since April 7.

The thermal scopes are part of a $20 million nationwide project to combat the feral swine, which have gobbled down apples in New York state, cleaned out cornfields in North Carolina, and even devoured bovine calves in Mississippi.

Still I’d rather see people just lifting hunting regulations on destructive invasive species. Let sportsmen and women kill the pests spending their own dime, and work hard to make the sport more accessible to new hunters. One of my bucket-list items is to go hog hunting in the Southern US. I like to eat pig products, they seem like an interesting species to hunt, and they cause a TON of damage so every one I kill I’m doing the country a little favor. Also hogs are a domesticated species brought over from Eastern Europe, so they are considered an invasive species, so wiping them out is NOT an environmental issue like say wiping out wolves or deer, Turkeys or moose.

It saddens me to see the .gov throwing regulations down on introduced and invasive species. Hell I just picked two that should be wiped out and looked up their regulations. Nutria and pythons.

In the freshwater fishery there are some lakes, streams, and rivers where it is a crime to live-release certain introduced species. Why is it these other species need permits and seasons when you can kill them? Just wipe them out and leave the regulations to the native populations!

Anti-Gun Catch 22

You’ve read it a million times. 99.99% of all Americans support xyz gun laws! COMMON SENSE! Seems a cut-and-dry argument for us pro-gun monsters to be crushed. Except we have the “NRA Corporate Gun Lobby!”. You see, since there is so much money in the NRA they simply can’t pass laws. You know, the NRA buys off politicians, and then pays off voters to vote for those politicians who vote against their wishes because damn near everybody wants gun control!

Except Michael Bloomberg is flushing money into the political scene, and now this:

Americans for Responsible Solutions, the super PAC founded by former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, announced Tuesday that it will invest millions of dollars in seven Senate races and four House races across the country, bolstering candidates — including two Republicans — who support stricter gun laws and are facing tough elections.

…The organization did not specify how much money it will put into each race but said that the funds would be used toward television advertisements, direct mail and digital communications. The group said it has raised $14.5 million in donations so far and is on track to meet its fundraising goal of $20 million by the end of the election cycle.

So if the anti-gunners are right, you can simply BUY elections, and if you have support of a overwhelming majority, that is further compounded.

All in, antis, show me your cards!

“Gun Death” Saw

Now this is not a death, but is a very serious attack:

The Japanese pop group AKB48 canceled planned appearances on Monday after two of its band members were attacked at an event on Sunday, The Associated Press reported.

AKB48, an all-female band that draws its membership from a rotating lineup of about 90 performers, played a concert in Takizawa, Japan, on Sunday, followed by an event where fans could purchase CDs and shake hands with the band members. There, a man, identified by The A.P. as AN ASSHOLE -ed, 24, used a foldable saw to attack the AKB48 performers Anna Iriyama, 18, and Rina Kawaei, 19, as well as a male staff member who works with the band and whose name was not given.

Now I have little interest in these pop groups, I don’t care how good my music groups look, or how well they dance. The fact that Rob Zombie puts on an Amazing stage show as well as makes music I love just shows what a Renaissance man he is.

Still this is big money and big entertainment, and these women rely on their looks as much as their other abilities, and saw wounds make NASTY scars. They may have a successful recovery, but that may be covered by makeup while on stage and in public. Even if the physical wounds heal the mental wounds may be horrible.

Say what you will about this profession, but it’s THEIR profession, and it is on the basic level their job just like your job is yours. Hell I have a fear that I might severely damage my hands making me unable or hindered at writing this blog…and this blog COSTS me money!

A horrible attack, but not a “gun attack”.

“Gun Death” Another Mother

This one didn’t use a bathtub…Ye been warned.

A California mother was charged on Friday with first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of her three daughters – all younger than 3 years of age – at their home in a working-class suburb of Los Angeles, prosecutors said.

…[she], also was charged with attempted murder of her own mother, was taken to a hospital after her arrest to be treated for self-inflicted stab wounds, the sheriff’s office said.

California has strict gun laws, it also has strict knife laws. Didn’t stop any of this. I’m sure ONE MORE LAW will do the trick and make California the safest state in the UNIVERSE!

Remember when we focus our attention to “Gun Deaths” utopia is RIGHT around the corner! Trust the .gov to save us all!

Why Would She Do This?

Man she must be CRAZY!

With his divorce trial looming, Michael Moore is battling his wife over the valuation of the couple’s assets, while branding her a spendthrift who “unilaterally wasted a large percentage of the marital funds” building a lakefront mansion that has prompted mocking news stories about the activist filmmaker’s wealth.

Moore and Kathleen Glynn are scheduled for trial next month in a Michigan courtroom not far from the sprawling Torch Lake residence that the Hollywood power contends became a money pit that cost five times what his wife claimed she would spend on the home.

How could any lady let a catch like Michael Moore get away? I mean he’s smart, funny, personable, and generally an agreeable guy. And let’s not get into his stunning good looks!

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

Evil Or Stupid

Bill has a great question: Evil Or Stupid

His answer is “Yes!”. I would agree, Tam points out the latest example of his malignant Narcisim, and it leads to the profile question: If he’s so damn impressed with himself, why would he be so forgiving when his staff constantly smears egg on his face.

Because they didn’t, that’s just the more convenient excuse over “I authorized this horrible action, and was fully aware of it.” And of course to spearhead such awful actions again and again is indeed stupid.

Images of the Antis: Safety

Here’s an interesting Image of the Antis:

Now what’s really interesting is first those Tylenol Deaths were from a 3rd Party tampering with bottles, nothing was WRONG with the Tylenol as it left the factory, but at some point somebody poisoned it. The safety was just to clean up the killer’s mess.

The Pintos likely weren’t as dangerous as Ralph Nader claimed, but Ford recalled them anyway just to save face.

But what about the guns? Is there anything WRONG with them? No, further as gun ownership and sales numbers increase, the homicide rate has been DROPPING. This is NOT a sign of a defective product.

We don’t see a recall of cheap beer or booze when young people drink too much, or go drinking and driving. We don’t see the recall of cars used by drunk drivers…even the Delmont 88

Instead these a criminal acts, and the behavior, and the people committing the behavior are the ones punished.

Oh and don’t tell the antis about the number of guns that ARE recalled every year, because that takes a weak argument and blows it up!
