“Gun Death” Not-so Merry Christmas

Wow

A man was sentenced to 19 years in prison this afternoon for fatally stabbing his cousin on Christmas Eve 2012 in Auburn, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

…When talking with police, Courville said he was experiencing a “spiritual” moment before the slaying and grabbed a butcher knife, charges said. Courville told officers that Oliver called him a name and he reacted by stabbing the man in the neck. Courville said that after the stabbing he hid in the bushes.

These are not normal people who do these horrible crimes, and when it comes to somebody who will do this will not be stopped by making certain items forbidden. Again, we all have kitchen knives at home, and holiday times can be stressful for all, but we don’t see this from NORMAL human beings.

It’s the person, not the tool!

Cross Eye Dominance

Caleb has a great video on this non-issue:

I’m left-eye dominant, and right handed. With pistols this is not even remotely a problem. Again the pistol simply crosses my center-line just a tiny bit as I align my sights. I shoot with both eyes open unless I’m focusing on a small or distant target.

Its as simple as the video. My big issue comes with rifles and shotguns. It’s a pain! With both eyes open I’m always seeing the front post or bead with my left eye. When I’m shooting fast with these guns I do the complicated procedure of mounting the gun with both eyes open, and spotting my target. As I track the target I close my left eye correct the sights and break my shot.

Of course the obvious solution is to get a rifle with a red-dot sight, but not all my rifles and shotguns have this….

Public School Stupidty

I’ll start with the bullshit story:

It is so shameful that schools right now only REACT to public outrage over their brainless rules, rather than do a little thinking exercise to see if a rule is smart, or just an invitation for trouble. I can understand zero tolerance for behavior that is 100% unexceptionable, such as behaviors that are a crime like bringing illegal drugs to school, or carrying illegal weapons.

We can argue about the justness of these laws, but for the time being a 14 year old kid can’t be sipping a beer in class without his parents present, and there is no legal justification for possessing cocaine ect.

Still things like a child handling a razor blade, or carrying a pocket knife, or fighting MIGHT be a sign of bad behavior, or might not be. Zero tolerance ignores the good intentions of a student who may have done nothing wrong and simply blindly punishes.

This is almost justifiable for a massive employer like McDonalds where blanket rules just keep the company out of hot water, but schools aren’t some burger joint that hires anybody who can raise the air temperature around them. They’re institutes of learning. You’d think they’d ENCOURAGE thought process rather than stifle it.

Further, Zero tolerance at this level isn’t encouraged for parenting. I mean you don’t tell a child they can’t yell in the house, and then ground them when they yell to you that your forgotten dinner plans are now on fire in the oven.

God help the school that tries to level this shit on my child.

Ok let’s end on a happy note. Remember that young Brony who got slapped down by both the bullies AND the administration? Well the school has backed down.

Grayson Bruce’s My Little Pony backpack will return, and with it may come new initiatives to prevent bullying in local schools.

Buncombe County Schools administrators met Thursday with the mother of Grayson Bruce, the 9-year-old boy who was propelled into the national spotlight this week after saying he was prevented from carrying his “My Little Pony” backpack to school because administrators told him it “triggered bullying.”…

Buncombe County Schools administrators released a joint statement Thursday, saying they would work with Bruce to make “a safety transition plan and an allowance for Grayson to bring the bookbag to school.”

“We have appreciated the opportunity to meet with the Bruce family and discuss the issues. We sincerely regret that the issue of being told to leave the bookbag at home was perceived as blaming Grayson. While that was not the intent, the perception became reality. We support Grayson bringing the bookbag to school.” the statement said.

Of course again, the school is likely only backing down because they drew national media attention, still I’m glad they themselves have stopped being the bully.

Over at the Hot Air coverage they talk about the “catalyst” for bullying. Frankly I call BS, its not like the girl who had head-gear braces in my elementary school was told to forgo her corrective dentistry because little monsters (myself included) made fun of the odd looking appliance. No, we got punished for being little assholes, and because of that I do note with shame that I derided that girl.

The school simply was doing all it could to do as little actual teaching as possible. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as it IS a union job.

A Serious WTF Story

Man this is just gross!

Police officers in Honolulu have taken their lobby mantra to lawmakers, insisting that the ability to have sex with prostitutes in undercover operations is a necessary evil that lets them do their jobs.

Their arguments come as Hawaiian legislators are mulling whether or not to drop an exemption for police from state prostitution laws, The Associated Press reported. But police say don’t: We have to be able to catch lawbreakers in the actual act.

Critics of the exemption say it leads to further victimization of those in the sex trade, some of whom are only there because they’ve been forced. And among those critics is Derek Marsh, an official who trains police in California on human trafficking issues — and who finds it most curious that Hawaiian cops insist they need the provision but won’t say how many times they use it.

Fucking NASTY! So these cops want to bang prostitutes, and then once they’ve been serviced stiff them on the bill and slap them in bracelets? You know you COULD just catch ACTUAL Johns in the ACTUAL act and get two (or more if there is a pimp or multiple workers/clients involved) people arrested for your police dollar. Or you could do like the rest of the country and just arrest prostitutes for SOLICITING, rather than full-on coitus.

OR the last, and sadly the most controversial, is let two (or more) consenting adults do whatever they want in privacy, and don’t get all riled up if money exchanges hands. This would free up police to tackle violent criminals, or pimps who push under-age girls into the sex trade. You know, the crimes that actually HURT people.

Bloomberg Shifts Focus

So Sean found something interesting.

Looks like Moms Demand Action is directly funneling money into Mayors Against illegal guns. This couples with a video I watched last night from John Lott.

The audio is crap in the video unfortunately, as Dr. Lott really looks like he’s bringing the whoop-ass, but you just can’t hear the points being made. Still fast forward to 14:50 in that video and look at resource slide. She links to Mayors Against Illegal guns, but the website is the URL for Moms Demand action.

The debate was in October of 2013, and today the MAIG website is still up, so why the link to Moms, when she’s openly plugging MAIG? She must have gotten a Memo.

Bloomberg knows that MAIG’s days are numbers. First up the founders, Bloomberg and Menino are no longer mayors, and it doesn’t appear that other mayors are willing to step up and chair the PAC. Further the meme has gotten out that if you’re a Member of MAIG there’s a good chance you’ll end up serving time for criminal activities, further MAIG has had trouble with Mayors abandoning the cause in a massive desertion.

Bloomberg is really a sole crusader, and I think his plan is to fight on his own as a billionaire king-maker for the cause, and Astro Turf his lack of individual support by funneling money into Moms Demand Action, while abandoning his Mayors Against Illegal guns which has become a liability.

They’re losing, is the end result!

Oh and the only audio that is good on that video is the first 15 mins, and BOY does it show that the antis really have no interest or ability to understand our cause. John Lott abandons most of his presentation to attack her flawed studies and citations, because her entire talk was based on studies that have been disproven for decades now.

The first step to forming a solid debate is to know your opponents argument and stay away from the pitfalls. This is why I’ve completely abandoned arguing against the “Made for Killing” argument for gun control. Yes, we all know there are guns that are specifically made for target shooting and other non-lethal activities, still your long-range bench-rest rifle may not be great for hunting or defense, but it still would work damn well as a sniper rifle in a pinch, and your open-class 1911 race-gun may be made for competition, but it doesn’t make it any less lethal if you shoot it at people. But still we own guns BECAUSE they can be used to kill attackers if need be, and that is 100% legal, so why argue a point that will just bog down in a quagmire.

Same with my abandonment of defending hunting guns. Yes hunting is a legitimate sport, and is wonderful, but its not an activity we can defend against the regulators, because nobody NEEDS to bag game to survive anymore. But people NEED guns to protect their lives every day. That they can’t argue against.

Seems the antis are incapable of making the evolutions we can do.

“Gun Death” MMA Fight

I’m kind of surprised I don’t hear about this more often.

An Extreme Fighting Championship Africa fighter injured in a Feb. 27 fight has died, the organization announced Wednesday.

Booto Guylain, 29, suffered a “serious head injury” in the bout vs. Keron Davies — making his EFC Africa debut — at EFC Africa 27 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He had been hospitalized since, EFC Africa saying Guylain had “swelling and bleeding on the brain.” He died in the hospital on Wednesday.

My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the fallen fighter. Really I’ve watched a bunch of MMA fights, and I’m surprised nobody gets seriously hurt in these crazy bouts. The fact that both men walk away and fight again, coupled with the apparent brutality of the match is why I enjoy watching. It also shows the skill of the fighters that they can subdue another man in prime condition so well without causing lasting damage. I’d say if I ever found myself in a fight like that there would be missing eyes and possibly dead parties if I can manage!

Still this man did not get up, he did not walk away, and he will not fight again. very sad.

But not a “Gun Death”, so it doesn’t count!

John Lott Throws Down to Media Matters

Media Matters released a hit piece on Dr. John Lott.

Dr. Lott does a damn good job at rebutting their character assassination.

With guns, the solution to a bad guy with a gun is more good guys with guns. As much as the antis hate that, its worked.

For people abusing their freedom of speech to wrongfully attack somebody, the solution is MORE speech.

Freedom always wins!

Quote of the Day: Timothy Bal

This is a very interesting letter to the Editor:

I propose that people like me who deplore gun violence take our country back from the gun lovers. We can do that by using economic sanctions against states that allow the gun lobby to write the laws. How? By never moving to these states, by moving out of these states and by never vacationing in these states.

Ahh that lovely false dichotomy! As Jack Noted Anti-Rights people make no intention of understanding WHY we have a different viewpoint. They have THEIR viewpoint, and assume they’re right, and make-up whatever they don’t like for the other side’s viewpoint.

Of course if you’re a gun owner and are against further restrictions, you KNOW the truth. We own guns BECAUSE we want America to be safer. Now gun culture 1.0 was all about hunting and target shooting, and really they didn’t care about safety. Hell those sports were FAR more dangerous. Hunting accidents and other unintentional accidents with firearms are on the decline, because gun culture 2.0 REALLY cares about safety, both at the range, in the field, and on our streets, and in our homes.

We’re succeeding! The other side would LOVE for our argument for relaxed regulation on firearms to be just so we can get our beloved guns, and dead bodies be damned…but it isn’t. If guns made me MORE at risk of dying or members of my home more at risk of dying I wouldn’t have any. Period! I might still have the right to do that, but I simply wouldn’t exercise it.

It isn’t true, so I have guns, and I carry them wherever I can.

Still the rabbit hole goes deeper!

The gun lobby uses money to gets its way. It is time for decent people to use their money to defeat the gun lobby. We can do that one state at a time. If we can get most states to regulate guns vigorously, we will be able to regulate guns at the national level.

First up, I find it amusing he tells anti-rights people to not move to pro-rights states or vacation there, meanwhile people are vacating anti-rights states, and certainly gun owners do a lot to avoid anti-gun places. Heck, I buy my stamps at the drug store rather than the post office because I can carry my gun there, and not in that unprotected Federal Building.

Also, he claims that the gun lobby uses money to get its way. If that’s true, you have nothing to worry about!

No, we win because we have numbers. The facts that you choose to ignore help bolster those numbers. Money helps, but even the money is because of numbers. Thousands of people donating a few dollars goes a lot further than one billionaire with a hobby horse.

Michael Bloomberg is one vote. Yes his money helps make him a household name, vs. John Q Gun Owner, but the THOUSANDS of lawful gun owners who oppose these dangerous laws do far more than a single dollar of advertising, and lobbying.

You lose because you don’t understand. Further you don’t WANT to understand.

Even in the Ivory Tower they’re Losing

This pretty squishy packed panel wouldn’t even toe the like with Maher.

Go watch the exchange I can’t embed it.

Also have a look at this packed panel.

Note, Bill Maher admits on that show he’s a gun owner. SE Cupp is on our side and is pro-gun. I’m sure Zach Galifianakis has a bunch of guns on his North Carolina ranch, and we know Michael Moore, among his other hypocrisies owns guns. The only one I’d be surprised if they DIDN’T own a gun was the NYT Reporter.

Note that this is the Ivory Tower with cherry-picked Yes-Men and even then Maher can’t get the circle-jerk anti-gun attack he wants.

Also I wonder if Keith Ellison’s story about his family’s view on gun ownership is true. I’m sure they own guns, but are they REALLY for magazine bans and background checks? He was born in 63 which means his family was adults when this photo was taken.

Blacks, especially backs who saw the Jim Crow south first-hand supporting gun control are Turkeys supporting Thanksgiving.

“Gun Death” Those Stabby Chinese

Man they seem to be doing so well with all their low “Gun Death”.

At least six people died after a knifing incident in central China’s Changsha city, state media reported on Friday, in what appeared to be a dispute involving market vendors from the restive far western region of Xinjiang.

Police shot dead one assailant, the official Xinhua news agency said. Unverified photos circulating online showed several bodies on the street and police taking a suspect into custody.

Not only were six people killed with a knife, but it took Chinese police with GUNS to actually STOP the attack.

I guess we should be concerned about the one dude who was shot by the police, and not the half-dozen other people stabbed to death, because really only “Gun Death” is a problem.
